My wife and I recently stayed at the Royal Hawaiian and it was great. The owners were able to provide great advice for restaurants even restaurants an hour away in Key Largo. When the snorkeling trip was canceled they were able to recommend another location as well as a 50% off coupon.
The rooms were clean and nice and very quiet and the location is close enough to Key West for a day visit without having to stay there.
When we are back in the area we will be back.
I knew when we booked our room that it was really low key and not a five star resort. Keeping this in mind, what made our stay special were Kim and Steve. They both work very hard to keep the property clean and maintained. If there is something that you need or a question that you have- don't hesitate to ask. I thought that our deluxe (larger) room fit our needs perfectly. One could easily stay in this room for an extended stay. Please keep in mind that Kim/Stever do not have control over the weather, traffic or wind direction. My husband likes to fish but was only able to drop his line for a short period in the canal due to the wind and build up of sea grass- which does provide a "nature" smell. I did comment about the placement of the tv in our room (#2) - just odd for watching tv in bed but we made it work- not a deal breaker. Thanks Kim and Steve for your humor and hospitality!
This was a perfect little vintage motel. Rooms were spacious and clean. You can park your car at your front door and park your boat (if you bring one) on the opposite side in the canal. We enjoyed the pool during our brief stay.
The folks running the Royal Hawaiian are hospitable and do everything they can to ensure your stay is pleasant.
If you are looking for the Ritz, this is not the right hotel for you. But is you want a clean room, nice people and a comfortable bed, this place is perfect.
The rooms are a great size. The beds are very comfortable. The water is right out of the back door. The managers are awesome, helpful and very knowledgeable. Every thing is close like snorkeling, scuba, reef,fishing and boat rentals. A day trip to Key West is easy. We have stayed here more than once and will again.
Clean and fairly reasonably priced--what more can you ask for, especially in the Keys? We just spent the night traveling late from Key West north, but if I ever decided to return to the Keys I would pick this motel. It would be a good place to stay while visiting the Lower Keys and saving $$ on accommodations. The room was spacious with a nice bathroom, a kitchenette and a table and chairs. The A/C was adequate and even though it is very close to Route 1 it was very quiet at night. Breakfast is not provided but Kim, one of the owners, was able to recommend a couple of places. My one star ding was for my 6'3" husband not being able to stretch out completely in the double bed, one of his favorite complaints about beds. But again, we'd book again because it was clean and the price was right.
