Tolosa Winery had been recommended to us during our visit to San Luis Obispo over the Memorial Day weekend so we decided to give it a try. The winery's modern architecture inside was quite interesting (I liked it) but things went downhill quickly after that.
First off being greeted at the door and led into the winery was a bit of a turn-off. We decided to sit on patio...there were at least 5 or more winery staff there serving others. It was not particularly crowded...and we sat, and sat and sat. I had to go to the cashier and ask how their wine tasting worked. We finally got a young kid to serve us...he turned his nose up when we said we'd split one wine tasting ($20) and said we could only have one glass...sigh.
I found the wines mediocre at best and really overpriced. We taste a lot in Sonoma County so understand wine prices at wineries. The chardonnays were somewhat bland and only one of the two Pinot Noirs was good...but at $65 per bottle I could not justify that sort of a price.
In short a good looking winery with a overly pretentious feeling and overpriced wines. We found a much nicer, friendlier winery (Saucelito Canyon) down the road...read my review of that winery.
