Neither the location, the service, amenities nor ambiance are worth the costs. I can only suppose that this hotel is sustaining on income from business clients who are not paying themselves.

While the lobby has free Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi in the rooms costs nearly $20/day. The lunch we had at The Grill included pretty good service and tasty food, but neither were so exceptional to rationalize their prices. The breakfast options were easily the most disappointing. On a weekday morning, when the business breakfast rush should be most anticipated, there was 1 lone bartender who was slowly serving very terrible espresso.

Booked a reservation and was quoted a price months in advance only to be charged DOUBLE for my stay. Hotel has been unresponsive to requests to rectify this and I am forced to dispute this charge with my credit card company. Small rooms, outdated, and totally not worth it.

Room tip: Stay somewhere else if you visit San Jose

We've stayed at this Fairmont several times and this time it was "just okay" - not great. We had reserved a king-sized bed but the professional but chilly receptionist told us there were only doubles unless we wanted a handicap-access room - disappointing. We have been President's Club members forever but no upgrade was offered. The room was a good size and clean, but there was a constant "hummmmmm" coming from the wall - not the elevator or A/C or fridge or TV but the actual wall....thank goodness it stopped humming about 10pm. I had hoped to watch the Sharks' game but, as always with this Fairmont, the game is not carried on room TVs - only in the bar....really??? Although the menu is very limited, room service was good - the flatiron steak is salty but tender. Rather a disappointing visit.

Had an amazing stay in November at this property. The staff was helpful and friendly. Check in didn't take a long time which was perfect after traveling most of the day. My room was gorgeous. Grateful that the housekeeping staff on my floor checked to make sure that my room was feather-free. Large tub good for soaking and slept great. Loved the in-room coffee station! All my needs were met and I had a fantastic stay.

We stayed in a Junior Suite for a week on business. Overall the stay was pleasant, It’s a huge hotel (best to be in the main building) so it does get busy especially round check in time.

Pros: Great location, near the Tram station, surrounded by food options, staff who went above the call of duty, lovely toiletries, spacious room with sofa, desk and dining table, has an in-house gym and sauna open 24/7.

Cons: Slow wifi (even when you have the higher priced options), expensive in-room dining (they add $5 delivery charge), shower with fixed shower head, sound proofing (blame the heavy doors but you will hear people coming and going who aren’t being mindful of the doors).

Considering the downtown San Jose options this is definitely one of the better spots to stay. It is a little on the old side but it’s not shabby.

For housekeeping service, they’ll clean till 8pm (it’s a big hotel), so if you want your room cleaned by a certain time every day, let them know and they’ll try to accommodate.
