This was one of the last "continental cuisine" restaurants in the area, complete with such touches as a rose delivered by the waiter to each lady dining with an escort. The food was always solid, but it is no longer in business. Too bad

This restaurant closed April, 2017 after being open for 43 years.
We loved the elegance, the bar, cocktails made by the owner, quiet atmosphere, excellent food.

We had a horrible experience hosting our holiday party at Chantilly, despite having had several positive dining experiences with them. They made profit-enhancing substitutions in wine and food and then got arrogant and huffy when called on it. I had the complete file of what we ordered but they kept insisting "The email must have gotten lost" -- yet they managed to work the entree menu just as we ordered.... With the exception of one great person, the wait staff were arrogant and belligerent. They could not wait to be rid of us -- not the type of hospitality the price point would normally provide. I cannot recommend this part of the business.

We had a good dinning experience on a Thursday night, although we feel the waitstaff would have been more attentice if it wasn't so crowded. The restaurant was tastefullty decorated (classic European, with gilded Christmas tree in the middle, not too brightly-lit). We made a reservation for 7pm, and Chantilly was fairly full already (8-9 of the 11-12 tables were occupied). Chantilly had a selection of Italian pasta entrees. We ordered the asparagus soup (made without cream) and French onion soup, seared Ahi tuna (raw inside) for appetizer, duck confit and shrimp gratin. The entrees came with mushed potato and vegetables. I liked my creamy shrimp gratin but there were too few shrimps. The duck confit was very flavorful. The house wine ($10 a glass) was good. We loved the desserts: Chantilly tiramisu (strong coffee liquor on the bottom of the cake) and gelato (choice of coffee beans or vanilla) was very good. Service was a little slow due to the orders from many diners. For example, our soup took 15 mins to arrive. But our waiter was fairly attentive by bringing us breads while we waited. Note: during holiday season, they don't bring you the prix fixe menu unless you ask for it.

Maybe it was a bad night? Or has Chantilly lost its master chef or changed hands? We noticed the quality has dropped on several counts.
What used to be an elegant restaurant offering impeccable service and consistently flavorful French classics was quite disappointing.
Food:
I was rather disappointed, our Caesar had flavorless, pre made looking croutons and the oily dressing tasted like it came out of a bottle; not the slightly creamy, distinctively flavored dressing of the past. The carpaccio looked nice although not inspired in its presentation. My veal with mushrooms had very little flavor, oyster mushrooms don't go well with veal, and the veal itself was extremely thin and flavorless. In the past the veal portion itself had some heft and flavor and the porcini / Madeira sauce offered had been flavorful, nuanced and had an inviting consistency. Not this time. My husband had lamb medallions and they were passable. The Rack of lamb my brother ordered werent served as a rack instead were small separate chops covered with a disappointing sauce. Our fourth had the duck with cherries. Most of us had the identical plated sides , four sliced au gratin potatoes and some delicious sautéed pea pods, the latter the most flavorful item on my plate. Again, not very inventive and certainly offering little variety. The grand mariner soufflés were delicious. It seems although Chantilly offers some wonderful dishes options on their menu the nuanced and varied flavors they have offered in the past just weren't there.

Service: The table service was rather plebeian; we had to ask a server to locate our waiter in to order wine as well as later specifically ask him for coffee after dessert was served. Our waiter cleared our dishes by stacking dirty dishes all at one time on his arm, a big "no no" in fine dining. They no longer use fine china and their stemware is no longer as delicate.
When we entered, even though we were nicely dressed, they escorted us to the worst table in the house, a cramped table next to the kitchen even though many other tables were available. Definitely not the elegant waiters or attentive service we remember from the past.

A noticeable change in quality. A change in philosophy? Chantilly management, we are /were loyal customers but you have stiff competition for fine dining. Your food offering and overall quality has definitely suffered as has the level of your service. You cater to an older crowd but one that can be quite discerning. We certainly noticed the change this time around. I am sorry to say but we will think twice about returning when going out for an elegant meal. Such a shame as Chantilly had been so consistently excellent and elegant for many years and one restaurant we had relied on for special occasions.
