For the price I am paying in Pasadena, this was a total rip-off. Better off staying in a motel 6 or other cheap run-down motels. I will NEVER go back to this place.
We had to move 3 times to finally get to a somewhat decent room. First, the rooms weren't clean at all, totally run-down, not maintained at all (broken stuff all over), and although they were remodeled, whoever contractor did it was probably not licensed - lots of cutting corners and just bad cover-up of some water damages. We had to move 3 times (4 rooms) until we can get something minimally decent. Seeing the management is pretty cheap with all stingy breakfast, I am willing to bet they were using unlicensed contractors (the kind you can find on Craigslist) with questionable reputation.
On the last night stay I found a cockroach in the toilet bowl. I just hope it wasn't crawling all over our stuff and our faces at night. Yuck!
The whole/complete story:
When we first arrived, we were put in a room on the east side of the 3rd floor. First impression was it wasn't that clean, and we thought it was just because it was old, but while unpacking we started to notice different things that weren't right about this room. First, the bathroom smelled funny, one of the lightbulbs in the bathroom was missing (it's rather dark) and then sink won't drain, and as one of us used the bathroom, we noticed dirty towels hanging on the shower curtain rod.
At that point we decided this isn't right, and we wanted a different room.
We were given a key to a room 2 doors down (323?). When we checked it out, and started to move our stuff, we realized the AC isn't working, and the fridge had broken/missing holders/shelves. Also the big lamp wasn't working. So we called again to get another room.
This time it's on the west side (facing the pool) on the 3rd floor. When we went to the 3rd room, the front desk staff accompanied us. Good thing is even before we started finding issues, he himself saw a few broken things, such as lights were out. So he took us to our 4th and (luckily) final room.
This room was also on the west side (facing the pool) on the 3rd floor. It is slightly better than the others because it has hard-floor, instead of carpet it has laminate wood flooring - the cheap kind. At least this is easier to clean. We had to clean some areas with towels because they just look filthy. We decided to settle on this because other ones were so bad. After this we started unpacking and moving our stuff from our first room (yes, they were all still there from our first check-in an hour earlier).
While this room is comparably better than the other 3, it is still EXTREMELY filthy. There are also a list of things we have noted down so I can write this review. Among other things we noted were:
Bathroom:
- Clothing rack in the sink area was very dirty and the chrome part was rusty. We had to clean this one thoroughly before we can hang our clothes.
- Bathroom shower curtain rod is rusty
- Mold on bathroom shower curtain around 10-12 inch from the bottom
- Toilet tank is not secured in place - we had to be careful when we flush cause it can fall off the bowl/bottom.
- The whole bathtub/shower was overlaid with granite stone, but it was extremely poorly done that some pipe opening (sprinkler pipe) was done as a square hole. It just looks very amateur work. This also makes me wonder if they just slap those granite slab on top of drywall that's rotting with mold from water damage, etc.
- Shower head was not adjustable, and it sprays all over the place in the shower
- Shower curtain cannot be closed properly (because the curtain rod stop has some gap against the wall), and this cause water to seep through to the outside of the tub, creating a wet puddle we had to clean/dry up each time after we shower.
- In the first room's bathroom, one of the lightbulbs was missing, exposing an open socket - electrical hazard
Sink area:
- Sink is clogged also, just like the first room.
- Ironing board not secured - safety hazard - in fact one of my kids walked near it and it slid down (remember this is laminate) almost hitting her on the foot/toe. I had to put a chair next to it to hold it up securely.
- There's exposed fire sprinkler pipes running above the sink, next to the wall, makes you feel like you are in a parking lot. What worries me is the pipes were painted really thick, makes you think what are they hiding behind? It looks like really old steel piping, and if that burst due to rust, I am worried our clothes will be wet.
Bedroom:
- One of the lamps next to the bed on top of the nightstand is tilted, so I was trying to straighten it up, but upon inspection I noticed it is broken and is taped with electric tape. This is very dangerous as it can fall anytime, or worse electrocute someone if the wire is exposed.
- Baseboard is badly damaged from the looks I am pretty sure it's water damage. Now that I read other reviews on this site, I am quite sure it is related to some other reviews with photos of water damaged ceilings.
- Refrigerator had broken shelves, so cannot put bottles at the door
- Broken door security lock - safety hazard
- All the furniture drawers are stuck, pretty much broken, cannot be used without slamming them shut or pulling them hard to open
Other areas:
- Stair areas are really dirty and not maintained. The back staircase near the elevator is the worst. It has lint all over the place, some old/broken appliances stored near there, and just an eye sore
- Laundry area in the back is very dirty - I was hoping we could do laundry and didn't end up doing it
- Elevator is dark, dirty, smelly
- Flooring is uneven, especially in the back near the elevator - this could cause someone to trip over the edges of uneven tile floors - again it looks like a non-professional laid the tiles
- Breakfast: 3 out of 6 cereals were empty - asked for refill but lady said they ran out... OK???
- Breakfast: waffle batter not refilled either, ran out.
- Breakfast: only boiled egg on weekends, although someone mentioned there will be scrambled egg on weekends.
- Breakfast: donuts are really mini donuts bought from discount stores. They taste really bad and crumbles as you eat them.
Pretty much the only item I can eat are waffle, english muffin, and egg.
WiFi:
- Pretty much worked only 1 night (off and on). 2nd day it was mostly not connected to the internet, then they were going to fix it, then the next day there was a new WiFi access point which requires a password for encryption. The problem is this new wifi access point has THE SAME NAME as the original one, which causes my devices to just spins because it gets confused between the old and the new one.
