Great place to stay, Awesome staff !!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 1 Nov 2023
Despite the reconstruction of the hotel, the staff went well above and beyond to make are 3 night stay the best in Pasadena, Jeneen(sp?) at the front desk was AWESOME!!. We arrived in Pasadena from LAX apx 10:30am and were able to do an early check in, and are flight out of LAX was not until midnight a couple of days later, we wanted to do some more exploring so Jeneen (sp?) aloud our group to do a very late check out so that we wouldn't have to carry are luggage around town and into LA. Excellent customer service!!, Breakfast was great and filling all three days we were there, the pool was reopened the same day we arrived, so extra bonus!, the doormen were kind and courteous. Very nice respectable staff of personal at this establishment, looking forward to returning.

I think this hotel will be much improved once renovations are complete; however, until then if you like to relax in your room, don’t expect much after 9:30am.

Pros:
- Loved the pool area
- The omelettes in the breakfast area are good
- Location is in walking distance to many bars and restaurants
- Friendly staff

Cons:
- We were told that the renovations were happening on a different side of the hotel from the side where our hotel room was on, but it sounded like the drilling was happening right above our room. It was extremely loud.
- I noticed some of the construction workers staring down at us at the pool in our bathing suits
- Some of the outlets in our room didn’t work

Room smelled like wet dog. Being pet friendly hotel, they do poor job on keeping clean. I call this hotel a pet smelly motel. Construction undergoing, never disclosed on any website or communication. Noisy. The worst hotel I ever stayed. Tolerating it with everything I am doing with all the things I need to do.

We stayed here for a long weekend to attend a family event nearby. We typically stay elsewhere but have stayed at this hotel before, when it was... perhaps not as worn.

The hotel is undergoing massive renovations in part of the building so not all rooms are available and the front desk is in a temporary location. OK, not a big deal even if the whole place seemed dusty and rather unkempt (and our room was not cleaned as well as it should have been). I would have expected the price per night to be adjusted accordingly buy it was the highest we've ever paid in Pasadena for this level hotel.

Fine, no big deal because we were hardly in the hotel; however, we saw a group of sketchy individuals smoking pot on property right by the valet entrance on one night. The next night, we saw a different group smoking something that was not tobacco on the second floor in the parking lot. We parked on 3 and just sort of hoped that they would not follow us into the building (which they did not). Same thing happened on the last night except that we were extra freaked out by it that time. I doubt they were guests.

I don't know if they need a security guard surveying the property or whether cameras would help but the hotel needs to address this matter before it gets out of hand.

Stayed here for one night while visiting LA for work. Absolutely loved the hotel - centrally located, super quiet at night, a nice pool and courtyard area, a great bistro/restaurant and a properly stocked pantry with items for purchase. Check-in and out was smooth.

This is a difficult review. Some things were really nice, others not so much. The best feature is the location in easy walking distance from Colorado Boulevard and Old Town Pasadena. The reception area with the Bistro and the Courtyard area with the pool are quite nice too. Compared to other Courtyards the choices and the quality of the food in the Bistro were actually quite good. We want to specifically praise the lady who was on duty at night. She was friendly and funny (the breakfast staff not so much).
The rooms were not very nice. The first room we got was stuffy, outdated and had view on a dumpster and a gas station. And unbeknownst to us initially, there was some water ingress that had drenched the carpet. And when we put a big wrapped package on the floor (we had brought a gift for a baby shower), the wrapping became wet and had to be replaced which cost us half a day including moving into a different room. While the maintenance guys who checked out the water ingress were very nice, the hotel was initially not very forthcoming with making good on the inconvenience. When we checked out and mentioned it again, however, the front desk manager deducted one night from the bill and added some points to my Marriott account.
The second room was nicer, with a pleasant view on the pool area. But it was equally outdated, despite some recent features like USB charging outlets. The bathroom was clean but very basic and the sink area was squeezed in next to the closet with barely any space for toiletries. The keycard mechanism never worked on the first try and produced interesting and varying light effects before finally unlocking the door.
What also bugged me was the nearly total lack of house keeping service. They only provide “refreshment service” (whatever that means) every other day and only for stays of 3 days or more. So make your own bed and bring your own tissues from the reception area. That’s youth hostel style, not Marriott. Unacceptable.
The gym is very minimal and small with some cardio equipment and some weights. Towels were available, but I did not see any wipes. In any case, the gym needs an upgrade.

Room tip: Try to get a room with view on the pool or even with a balcony

We appreciate your feedback and will review your guest room to see what immediate attention can be provided prior to a full renovation this year, starting in June. We hope you'll come back and see us later this year to see our new look which will include new door locks as well. Thank you again and we hope to see you again.
