I really didn't want to give this place a poor/average review, however, I think it's important to let other travelers know what to expect.
On arrival at the hotel, I was greeted by one of the front desk staff members, check-in seemed fairly seamless until he mentioned the $5 per day parking fee. The hotel site I had booked this through listed free parking, and so this was challenged. The front desk staff member proceeded to tell me they changed the parking policy and now it's $5 per day... insert a few minutes of back on forth on this until this member of staff decided there was actually a policy where if you sign up for the Choice Club you can have free parking.
Honestly, this parking issue turned a fairly easy and friendly check-in into a much less enjoyable experience and within 20 minutes they had already put a downer on this stay... but let's not worry too much here. And yes, this person eventually gave me the free parking but not without signing up for Choice Club which I did not want to do.
The room itself was on the 2nd floor and there are no elevators for those with heavy bags!
The room had 2 big beds and they were extremely comfy, the room was also kitted out with a lounge chair, 1 bedside table, fridge, desk, desk chair, wardrobe and ironing board.
The bathroom was fitted with a bath/shower and toilet in one room and the vanity sink area just outside the bathroom in the main room.
At a first glance the room looked great, especially given the price point but I was wrong.
The first evening, I spotted a roach running across the floor... then the second night, it oddly seemed like only one would appear a day, maybe the others were just good at hiding. They were appearing near the front door on the wall, I assumed they were coming through the bottom of the door.
After a few nights I spotted one on the headboard which proceeded onto the bed YUCK! I got rid of all of them but when removing the one in the bed it seemed the house keeping weren't cleaning these rooms very well... the bed base was covered in dust, actually masses of dirty fluff at this point which I found pretty disgusting.
As for cleaning, I'm not sure if it's standard for this hotel but they seemed to only clean the room once a week which I found odd.
The hotel listed a swimming pool but sadly this was closed by California Health for Health issues.
The hotel also includes a free breakfast which, if you don't have any dietary requirements seemed pretty decent.
It included coffee, tea, yogurt, fruit, packaged pastries, breads, a waffle making station, sausage patty and omelet patty.
As a vegetarian, I went down to try the breakfast twice however on both occasions I noticed guests picking up the meat with the egg tongs and vice versa, might not bother some people but I chose not to eat in there after seeing that... nothing on the hotel.
Now I've spent quite a few chars giving all the negatives of this hotel, I sadly can't take away the dirt, roaches and parking issues. I will say however that during my stay when I went to ask staff questions be it front desk, management or housekeeping they were all very friendly and tried to accommodate as much as possible.
Overall, if you get a 'clean' room then you'll get a bargain.
