“Good park”

Noboribetsu Bear Park
Reviewed 12 April 2018

I went on August 2017, at that time the weather was perfect in Hokkaido. As my first destination in Noboribetsu I visited the bears, luckily I was able to see a cub too. In addition to bears, the were some performances with the bears. The place contains also some few attractions related to the Ainu people.
Going as far as to reach Noboribetsu, I recommend to combine the Bear Park with a visit to Jigokudani (Hell valley) and the thermal lake and take a trekking in the mountain.

It was in the middle of the winter but the bears were all still out and there were many ready to be fed. They all looked healthy and well cared for

Bear park has around 10-15bears. The bears were not active as it was cold.

However some of them will wave at you for some treats. There are bear treats available for 100yen a pack. We bought two packets at first and ended up buying even more because the bears were absolutely adorable.

This park also has duck race and a great view of Lake Kuttara.

To reach the park we must use cable car from the ropeway station. I expected there is a lot of bear there with some shows, but there was a few bears only in 2 cages and the show was canceled that day. The best part of the bear was feeding theme with biscuits through a small hole and we could see the bears from the glass. Very funny and our kids were really excited.
The Ainu museum was less maintained and the collection was not interesting.
The snow fall when we visit so the lake was not visible.
But the area at the end of path way was nice for photo shot. The snow, plants, houses were good objects. There was a souvenir shop at the park and at the ropeway station.

you can try feeling the bear with the bear biscuit purchased from the locker area, about a few dollars per packet. The bear will wave and signal for food and you can throw it down for them. But sometimes, the birds will snatch them before it reaches the bear. Bears are a bit smelly even though we visited them in the cold period. Duck race was closed (SO sad), there's a dog performance and the lady would bring dogs out dressed in Christmas outfit. But the keepers are a bit unfriendly. Simple park not much buzz around.
