This was an amazing day on the water and Capt. Dave and his crew do it so well. The Lily was a beautiful and comfortable boat and we had a WARM day on the water in January. Got to see whales and loved how peaceful and calm the whole day was. So worth waiting for and we will be back! And you get great brownies when you dock!

I am not sure I would take this trip again. We have gone out of San Diego Bay a few years ago and decided to try their whale watching trip since they had a smaller boat. There was a snafu with us leaving on our noon trip. They said our boat wasn't back yet and we would be leaving as soon as it came in. After 20 minutes they said they were taking the 12:15 scheduled boat trip out and the noon would have to wait. Then they took us out on a boat that had been sitting at the dock all along. The crew was knowledgeable and we did see 2 gray whales. There was also a snafu with pictures in that we could get 2 but for some reason the guy was not able to print out a second one. Did give us a discount on the picture of $5 since we were late going out. It wasn't that it wasn't fun just didn't seem very organized.

Hi,
Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. I'm sorry that the trip did not meet your expectations. We had an unforeseen mechanical snafu with Manute'a, the boat you were booked on that day, and our staff was working hard to repair it in time for your safari. I won't go into the long-winded story about exactly what happened and why, because frankly, it's no excuse for your having a poor experience. We set the bar very high for ourselves and most days, I'm proud to say, I think we meet it. But once in while we fail and unfortunately that occurred on the day of your dolphin and whale watching trip. We should have been more communicative with everyone on the trip that afternoon, both before and after boarding. I'm glad you had fun during the trip and saw gray whales. And I hope that you'll give us another opportunity to prove ourselves! We're happy to speak with you further about the trip, what happened, and anything we can do to make this right. Feel free to send us email us at captaindave@dolphinsafari.com or call us at 949-488-2828 and ask for a manager.

My husband and I went on a tour as part of our vacation. This was our first time in California and we decided to give Capt. Dave's a try. You will not regret a tour with Capt. Dave. We spotted a whale during our tour and Capt. Dave and his crew went above and beyond to get us as close to the whale-while being safe-as possible and to give us many photo opportunities. I was impressed with how hard Capt. Dave and the crew worked to make sure we were happy with our tour. They also do excellent work to help rescue various marine life. Would love to take another tour in the future! If you go on this tour, please be considerate of others. We had someone moving everyone's things so they could stretch out and sleep...which seems like a terrible waste of money on a whale watching tour!

The crew was very knowledgeable and incredibly nice; they kept the boat out longer than they should have to let us see 3 pods (500) dolphins and 4 grey whales. They took pictures of the guests and the mammals we saw which made great souvenirs. The catamaran boat made for a fun ride and comfortable with plenty of room for everyone. The onshore staff was helpful and nice. Definitely put on your sunscreen. The only disappointment was back on shore they had a low inventory of Tshirts for sale; I don't even usually buy souvenirs but for this trip I would have.

Took the family on a Captain Dave's safari today - and it was excellent. Captain Pete and Head Mechanic Mark were outstanding. A part of the trip that can't be understated was the safety explanation, done in a fun way, and a way that was easily understood for the kids. All along the trip they kept us informed and provided education and stories that were entertaining. Would highly recommend this experience. Well worth the money - and the brownies are EXCELLENT!
