We stayed at the Grand Reserve from February 15th-22nd in a two bedroom master swim out. We were a family of 5- grandma, parents, a 16 yr old boy and a 13 year old girl.
Upon check-in, we had an issue with the location of our room, but Reception Manager, Pascual Mojica took care of it and had us moved to a better location the next day. He checked in on us several times during the week to ensure we were having a great experience. Suggestion to management: the interior and exterior circle should be different room categories and priced as such.
Here are our thoughts about the resort:
Service
Guest service is truly amazing at this resort. We have traveled to many 5 star resorts including Nizuc in Cancun and Banyan Tree in Mayakoba and this resort was on par.
Our concierge, Samuel Charles, did an amazing job- catering to all of our needs. He took care of all of our reservations and went ABOVE AND BEYOND when he went off property to get my daughter cookies she had been asking for. His boss, Ramon Marte, also came by our room to check on us. We were very well take care of by the Guest Services team!
Restaurants
While the restaurants are modern and beautifully designed, this is where the resort falls just a tad short. There are some communication and service issues, but I believe they can be...We stayed at the Grand Reserve from February 15th-22nd in a two bedroom master swim out. Restaurants
While the restaurants are modern and beautifully designed, this is where the resort falls just a tad short. There are some communication and service issues, but I believe they can be easily fixed by management. There are also prep issues- we found small bones in what was presented as white meat boneless chicken breasts twice at Mangu and once at Kao. This needs to be addressed by the prep kitchen as it’s a choking hazard.
Overall, we went to the Grand Reserve buffet (the best buffet we have ever had at an all inclusive resort), Mina, Kao, Olio, Rare & Bana at Paradisus, Mangu several times for lunch and used room service. Our least favorite meal was Kao and we were surprised that the buffet was our favorite. Our longest wait times were at Mangu for lunch.
Pool
We utilized the main pool for two days and then just used our swim out which was more private. The pools are chilly, but you get used to the water once you get in. We’ve never been to the DR in February so it may be a seasonal thing. And, these pools were just filled two months ago so may need some more time to heat up.
Beach
Beach is beautiful with the exception of seaweed but that seemed to be along the entire beach. Also, we ended up sitting in The Reserve section which was by far nicer than the Grand Reserve section. I’m sure they just need a little time, but the GR beach section should be even more luxurious than the Reserve section.
Entertainment
We didn’t take advantage of much of the entertainment other than a couple fitness classes and the silent disco which was fun. My teens even went to the water park, so it’s not just for little kids, which is nice. If you want something to do you’ll find something, but we just mostly wanted to relax.
Other notes
George Carry, a server in the buffet was great and should probably be moved to Kao or another restaurant based on his great demeanor and English skills. Sergio Silva was our driver a few times and he is a character. Loved his songs! Carmen Vasquez in entertainment was great- full of personality and very helpful when we needed things. Pablo Pena in guest services helped us with our bags and provided door to door service for dinner a couple nights. It was greatly appreciated as my mother can’t walk long distances.
Overall, a great week at Grand Reserve and thank you again to Samuel and Pascual for making it a great week!!
