Room was much smaller than pictured and in rough shape! Window was filthy, covered in bird poop. Wallpaper was nicked/scratched. No place in room to put a suitcase and no drawers.
Told reception about our dissatisfaction and she said “sorry” and gave us a free drink coupon. She either was not surprised or didn’t care.
the greenhouse was a very unique hotel in Iceland with a combination of restaurants, bars, shopping, and the hotel rooms. i have never stayed at a hotel quite like it. we ate at several of the restaurants and did some shopping. the rooms were very clean and modern.
Didn’t find the receptionist particularly helpful when I was trying to rearrange plans. He wasn’t really interested and just seemed keen to get you away from the desk so he could carry on playing on his laptop . Room was similar to a travel lodge without the bath. Unremarkable. Wouldn’t stay again.
We really loved this hotel! Our room was great and comfortable and the staff was all really lovely. The shop was very fun to browse and we also enjoyed our breakfast in the morning.
I want to especially shout out the guy who was working at the Taco truck (Taco Vagninn). They close at 9pm and we happened to arrive at 8:50 PM. He had already pretty much cleaned the whole place to shut down but reopened to make us some tacos. We had a long day and were starving and SO appreciate his kindness. The tacos and nachos were delicious and unique and we just can't say how much we appreciate him.
Oh, we also loved that there was a Whatsapp group we could join if the Northern Lights were in the area. We didn't see them the night we stayed there, but liked that extra touch.
What a great find for a place to stay outside Reykjavik! They let us into the room early since we drove straight from the airport, and were helpful any time we needed ~ especially the receptionist who even looked up where we could buy frisbi discs when we found there were two disc courses nearby! (Sorry we didn't get her name but she was a local) The room was cozy and clean with a great view, and the bar downstairs served great cocktails. Wide variety of places to eat in the hotel, but we were in walking distance of a local brewery/pizzeria... For a small town, had fascinating geothermal spots everywhere ~ don't miss the rift between Europe & North America outside the post office!
Definitely a perfect base for outdoor adventures nearby and further away!
