Good location about 2 miles from Old Town. We received a great price so I wasn't expecting much. Staff was friendly! An older property -- nothing fancy but clean and well maintained. Our room was located directly across from the aviary. The pretty birds start singing around 5 AM as the sun rises! A wake up call we weren't expecting. We learned to turn the fan on for the remainder of our stay. Would recommend this property if you are traveling on a budget, or don't spend much time at the hotel.

Room Tip: If you are near the bird cage, turn a fan or TV on overnight. The birds are pretty but loud in the morning!

We stayed at the Magnuson Hotel for a week in January. Lily at the front desk was so friendly and accommodating. We had a double queen room that had been renovated, and was great for the price we paid. The bathrooms are incredibly small though. I recommended they put hooks on the bathroom doors so you have somewhere to hang your robe when showering, or clothes when you're getting dressed. We did spend a day around the pool, and that was nice. And we ate the complimentary breakfast most mornings during our stay. The waffle maker was sticking, so they did go out and buy a new one when we complained. All in all, a great place to stay if you are on a budget but still want a nice clean place with a good location, free parking and wifi.

Good location. Could not believe the price given that other places averaged $350. a night. We needed to be in driving distance of Mayo clinic on Shea during rush hour traffic. The room was adequate but beds were terrible. Staff is super nice. The pool is delightful, but even though they have no smoking rules, some people just have to ignore them. There is an aviary in center of courtyard which gives the outdoors the sounds of birds singing. The breakfast buffet is nice but we brought our own gluten-free oatmeal and bread for toast. Parking is well lit. Wifi worked well. We had a 1st floor room and were surprised that we did not hear people above us. We were next to the laundry room which begins operations at 7 am. We had to leave by 7:30 am so all was OK. Check in was a breeze. Watch out for slippery bath tub.

This is by no means a 3 star . More like a 1-1/2 star. Hotel is super old and out of date, also the area is super sketchy looking. It is however conveniently located to most of everything in Scottsdale. Has a pool that was decently clean but the surrounding pool area is super outdated. The rooms were fairly clean. Staff were all very pleasant , however the bartender is on the slow side but is a nice guy. The breakfast is about a 4/10 , but there again the people serving it were nice. I booked this place due to being on a tight budget for that particular vacation and I got what I paid for. All in all , its a fair place to sleep and shower but dont expect much more.

Thanks for the time you took to write to review our hotel. The Papgo Inn was designed by a protege of Frank Lloyd Wright and constructed over a half-century ago. We are three years into a planned 5-year refresh of the entire property, headed by Marilyn Deering Design who specializes in this era. We have remolded the lobby, lounge, breakfast area and 1/2 of the rooms. This summer we'll complete the rooms remodel (we have gutted everything down to the studs) and next year we'll repaint and resurface the exterior. But our designer has not changed the hotel's mid-century modern architectural and vibe. Our hotel will still make you feel like you have been transported back to a simpler time.

Our McDowell Road corridor is undergoing a similar revitalization. Our neighbors to the west are now upscale town-homes and to the east the Papago Plaza is slated for removal and replacement.

We are not a new franchise hotel, built from a cookie-cutter design, but a vibrant slice of history designed to showcase the relaxing and restorative mid-century modern era.

Please come back and visit us again.

Sincerely,

Bret Wirta

The staff was fantastic. Room is a room, the property was quite and peaceful. Friendly staff made the visit very smooth. Price was good. Close to old town Scottsdale and fashion square. Convenient location.
