We had been allocated a “free” timeshare and decided to combine a trip to Iguazu Falls with a bird-watching tour of the Pantanal. Puerto Iguazu allows easy access to both the Argentinian and Brazilian sides of the Falls using public [ or private] transport. Buses from the airport drop off at the hotel.
The Hotel Pirayu has several “bungalows” available for timeshare as well as part of a more modern hotel complex. The grounds are set back from the Av, Tres Fronteras along which local buses run 5 blocks into town. Several small shops are just across the road for basic provisions.
Every bungalow had its own parking space and set in a leafy environment. Our bungalow consisted of a kitchen/sitting room, bathroom and double bedroom. Cooking facilities were adequate and included a microwave, gas top [ no oven or grill], fridge/freezer. Internet was only available in the hotel reception area, which was modern, well-lit and comfortable. This was to be expected due to the extent of the grounds. Each bungalow was provided with digital televisi¬on. Both rooms had individual air conditioning and ceiling fans and had fly screens, so could be ventilated. The rooms were reasonably secure though no safe was provided.
Our reception was friendly and all staff helpful and efficient. The rooms were cleaned regularly, again by friendly staff.
Residents have access to a swimming pool and gym complex and tours can be arranged through the hotel.

Room Tip: We booked a bungalow using Interval timeshare

The reviews on this place are mixed so I was worried, but everything is pretty good. I give this 3 star hotel an extra star for value. This definitely isn't a high end resort but the layout of the cabin is nice and the mattresses and pillows are perfect. Our toilet runs constantly but everything is functional (unlike the AC in our last hotel) so we are pleased overall. Only the concierge speaks broken English so a little Spanish goes a long way.

Read the earlier reviews and got scared but we got a positive surprise. Seem like there is a new owner and the cabin we got was clean with new towels and bed clothing. The decoration was fresh and we had well functioning airconditioners in all rooms. The cottage was equipped for cooking, which is good as the breakfast is weak and rather expensive. My only complaint is that the pool was filthy. The staff is very friendly and help you out with any problems that show up. Plus is that the bus to the falls pass right in front of the reception area.

Nice functional cabin for the family. Cozy and comfortable. If you look for a nice place, it's good, but if you look for top-of-the-line luxury, this might not be what you're looking for.
Excellent staff, super friendly and attentive to you every need. Would definitely stay again. I've read reviews that not sure why but they absolutely differ from my experience. Perhaps because a recent change of management/ownership. I would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Quiet location and cabins. Reserve with time and choose a cabin by the pool.

I think these cabanas were built in 1950 and they have NEVER NEVER been refurbished since. Our cabana had a hole in the wall where the rain came in. The furniture was very old and all the fabrics, curtains, towels etc were marked and worn. The sheet for the bed was not big enough to tuck in and we ended up in the middle of the night sleeping on the bare mattress. The paintwork was dirty and the whole cabana very sad! There was a motley assortment of kitchen equipment - no bottle opener, no tin opener.
Not recommended!
