A great stay for our mini-break

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 Jul 2024
An excellent location from which to explore the Alentejo coast. Tucked away and hidden from the main road, you'd never know what lies beyond the trees.

The room accommodation was superb, very traditional and rustic, although no air con or fan which fortunately we didn't need. The cool breeze through the window at night was sufficient! The surroundings are very quiet too.

Breakfasts are more than adequate - too much for us, the choice was amazing, the quality superb. Having breakfast on the terrace in the morning sun set the scene for a good day.

An honesty bar is available for drinks in your room, out on the patio, or the communal lounge area.

The swimming pool was well maintained and of a good size for swimming lengths too. Sun loungers around the pool make for a relaxing time in sun and shaded areas.

Hugo was extremely busy but always had time to chat, explaining the very interesting history of the former farmhouse buildings, and nearby towns.

A walk into town at night would be tricky along the unlit section of road, but once reaching the campsite area it would be ok. We used our car though, and found plenty of parking areas in town.

Some very nice restaurants in town, and reasonably priced, welcoming and friendly staff. We used 3 different ones during our stay, all worthy of a return visit.

Our 3-night stay wasn't long enough, and returning is very much on the cards!

An amazing find, located outside the beautiful Zambujeira do Mar - it's like staying in a private country residence in a remote part of Alentejo. An authentic historic building and grounds, with rooms that remind me of travelling in Spain using Paradors (luxury converted castles). The room felt like a castle or church, opening into a shared courtyard with a well stocked honesty bar, and further away over the grass lawns a very separate large pool and sunbathing area (pool is regularly cleaned and large enough to be fun). There is a beautiful and eclectic lounge to relax indoors also, listen to music or take breakfast. The property is run by a lovely family with everyone contributing and helping out, and a family experience when leaving.

The room was spotlessly cleaned when I arrived and even though it has an antique feel it was not dirty. The best two things - the homemade soap from one of the family member was really nice, and best of all was the bed. Wow. About 1 metre wider than King Size, huge, inviting and so comfortable. I prefer a slightly harder mattress and while it might feel a bit tough to some people at first, after walking 24km on Fishermans Walk, the best thing is support for your muscles not softness, in order to transfer stresses from your body. I had the best nights sleep in a week hiking down the coast and didn't want to get out of bed!

The only annoyance is it's not a bit closer to Zambujeira do Mar, which for me is the most beautiful town and beaches on the whole coastline. I walked to the hotel, and again in the evening walked into the town and back. On a map it looks close enough and I'm a fast walker, but even for me it is at least 15 minutes each way and in places without pavement, walking in the road which in darkness is a bit more challenging. The hotel offers bicycles and locks so there is an easy solution (and really for a place like this why do you want to leave!) but still it's nice to walk to places where you can!

Room tip: There is an amazing cafe doing exceptional Indian food at the first shops you arrive on when walking down the road into Zambujeira do Mar

We stayed 2 nights on our wedding anniversary and very much enjoyed the experience. The bed was a bit hard but everything was very clean. The breakfast was very good. A nice break. The property is in the country a little way from the sea. The coast in this area is beautiful.

This place is great! Everything about it is well thought and you clearly feel that Rodrigo and Ary love what they do and are attentive to their guests.
I travelled with a friend and we stayed in a super nice room with soap and shampoo made by Ary (which are really really good!). The place is a bit far from Zambujeira (if you are traveling without a car) but Rodrigo offered us rides to Zambujeira.
The breakfast is great, super delicious! Note the amazing bread.
I would highly advise anyone to spend some days there!

Susana

I echo the good reviews posted by others. Our three hard-working hosts were very friendly and helpful, whilst the accommodation provided everything we needed. The pool, although cool, was very welcome and the gardens prettily laid out. Being a couple of kilometres outside the main village, the hotel was extremely relaxing and peaceful. The only very slight criticism is that the lighting was quite dark, making it difficult to read in the evening.
Breakfast, sitting outside, was a highlight with fruit, cheese, local charcuterie and eggs to order. Unlike most of the guests when we were there, we were not walking the entire Rota Vicentina, but did follow some of the trail along the clifftops. We didn't try the free bikes but cycling into Zambujeira would be very easy. Zambujeira is not a pretty village but is very attractively situated above the rocky cliffs with a good choice of restaurants and shopping facilities. We spent three nights at the hotel whilst exploring the beautiful Alentejo region.
