We camped here on the way to Kgalagadi. We did not book ahead and when we arrived there was no-one there, but phoned the cell no. The lady arrived within minutes.
We were three couples each camping. The ablutions were spotless and the wash up area aswell. Lots of hot water. The grass was neatly cut and there were trees for shaded parking.
Bonus was the springbok grazing around, the abundance of birds and the old tortoise that came to visit. Price was extremely reasonable, it also has chalets but we did not use these facilities.

Room tip: This was camping and sites with shade are great in the summer.

We have used Kalahari Monate 3 times and each time were very satisfied with the quality and friendliness we experienced. The chalets are very comfortable and well appointed. Watch out for the black Springbok.

Situated 10km north of Upington on the Askam road to the Kgalagadi. Entrance gate right on the road. Late afternoon motorbikes racing along could be heard but no road noise at night. Spotless and neat and well equipped. Thatched roof chalet with wooden beams in the style of Sanparks chalets. We paid R770/chalet for 2 people at the end of August on our way back home from Mata Mata in the Kgalagadi. Outside area around braai in need of a touch-up but very good value for money inside. Friendly reception lady.

We stayed in the chalet accommodation. Thanks to the consideration of the kind and friendly owner, we had two adjoining units. The units were reasonably well equipped for a self catering stay. Everything was clean, apart from the braai grid, for which I had to spend an hour of scrubbing in order to make it usable.
We were warm enough, despite the winter chill, thanks to the cosy bedding. There was air conditioning in the two units, but only one had a "warm" option.
Take note that one can hear EVERYTHING going on in the adjoining unit, whether it is conversation, snoring or whatever.
The campsite was peaceful, with some springbok roaming freely. The night sky was very clear, and only slightly impacted by the lights of Upington at 13km from the site. However, despite the address of the site, it is important to highlight that there is no affiliation with the nature reserve across the road, so no opportunity for one to visit there for game viewing.
In summary, this is a clean and peaceful site well suited to travellers on their way to or back from Namibia or the Kalahari. We used it as a base to explore the Green Kalahari area for a day or so. It is only a campsite though, not a reserve, and try to avoid having noisy neighbours.

Situated on the R360, this well kept campsite is the ideal stop-over on your way to the Kgalagadi or Namibia. Friendly service, clean ablution facilities, lovely sunsets and plenty of birds around. Take care, it could become bitterly cold in winter.
