What an amazing adventure driving the Sani Pass was. It was both and exhilarating driving the bumpy road and hairpin turns to reach the roof of Africa. A nuce pub with stunning views of the Drakensberg mountains, and a good drink selection will be your reward for making it up. We visited a village in Lesotho and met with the local medicine woman in her hut. What an authentic experience to meet and mingle with local people and be welcomed into their village. Don’t miss this experience.

As I hadnt been up Sani Pass for many years and my fiancee never and we had USA family here, it was on my bucket list to do so. As our vehicle is a Toyota Fortuner 4X2 was a tad nervous as they had snow a few days before at the top. We waited a few days for the weather to clear and on a lovely sunny day we did the trip. They were doing construction at the bottom around the hotel, but it was well organised and we didn't have to wait too long to get through. The road is very winding and rough but our SUV did it without any trouble although I am very nervous of heights. I views on the way up, including the frozen waterfalls were magnificent and there was snow all over at the top. We had delicious hot soup and local homemade bread for lunch at the highest pub in Africa and our USA family were suitably impressed even being seranaded whilst having lunch by 2 basuto men with homemade guitars. A lovely outing not to be missed if you are in the area. Dont forget your passport for the Lesotho border.

You will not regret this scenic trip, a 4x4 is a must to take on the pass. The locals are really friendly , the food at the top of the pass is fairly priced.

A wonderful day out with Sfosi our guide from Sani Pass Tours - he had a great sense of humour and was full of information about the Pass, its history and the surrounding area

We loved our day on the Sani Pass.

I imagine it's not nearly as nice on a cloudy day.

It's always nice to get a new stamp on your passport and the food and drink at the pub was also good after the exciting trip up!
