This review is written at 00:10, which is the time I've had to complain by the guy at reception for 2nd time to ask other guests to turn down the volume, who've been playing loud music since about 17:00. Both my wife & I have asked the guests directlyas well to turn down the music.
Out experience at this place has most likely been the worst ever. My wife posted a review on booking.com as well detailing our experience since the 1st night. The first room had so many snags such as, but not limited to the following:
Dividing wall - not sealed properly.
Towel rail & toilet toll holder paint
Towel rail is not completely secure (loose).
Toilet Wall dirty
Toothbrush Cup dirty with paint + rust
Floor strip loose at toilet door.
Basin plug not secured.
No shower screen.
Hinges fitted with half the amount of screws that's required.
TV isn't plugged in. No remote (established after inquiry that remote is not working & there's a problem with the connection).
Spider webs above TV & on ceiling. Although we've been offered a credit for one night's stay at a future date, for our bad experience of the 1st night, we can confidently say that we will never book this place again. I intend getting hold of the owner, who we were advised is currently in Thailand, to address this matter.

Full of mould, this place is a health hazzard and should be closed down untill it is repaired and construction is completed. Staff were so intoxicated in the morning hours and ofter I called the feont desk to report the noise a intoxicated staff member knocked on my door and told me that the owner is hosting a party... at 1 in the morning... after you pay them to sleep there they keep you from sleeping. This place is a mess seriously, staff even urinated against the wall under our room window not knowing we can see and hear everything, hence the call to let them stop .. after the intoxicated employee was at my door she gladly discussed it with her co workers, the foul language used was jaw dropping.

This place was booked 2 months in advance and even received welcome email on the day of our arrival. But once we arrived at the House, we were informed that our room had already been booked out to someone else and we informed via Manager, that there was nothing she (Emmy - owner) could do for us. Mind you it was past 8pm and we had driven from Joburg. We tried to have a discussion with her on finding us an alternative but she would not bother talking to us or take our calls as we tried in vain to find a solution. We were lucky one of their employees (Letwin) knew of a friend who manages accommodation nearby who then made a personal call to a friend to take us in. They (essenwood) requested we come back following day to finalise refunding us. It was then agreed with Mbali and Dinkie (as the Owner Oliver) refused to come discuss with the way forward; that the refund would go directly to the establishment that had taken us in "The St James on Venice" but to date they have neither refunded us or paid St James on Venice.
We find this type of treatment of paying guests disgusting and dispecable to say the least especially after 8 hours of driving in the rain. They have not even communicated or apologised to us to date.

We would recommend to future travellers to be cautious of this place. Noting this place is going through renovations currently and there is sand and dust everywhere but no notification was given.

Please be careful of places you book. It was a terrible experience and would prefer to get our refund and move on with life but they are giving us the run around. Definitely a place i will NOT be referring to anyone i know, that's for sure.

I have in days past stayed at this ( what used to be ) grand old Berea home. the advert on Booking.com showed old pictures before the renovation they are currently busy with.
the new rooms are small and pokey, fitted with what must be the cheapest decor and fittings little money can buy. So sadly for me - never again

The place looked lovely on their images but when we got there, it was slightly different. The stuff was not welcoming at all, no communication with us upon arrival and when we called reception for assistance, calls were never answered. The cleaning service was also poor, we found dirty cleaning clothes in our bathroom basin, no curtains or door on the shower made the bathroom very messy. We also did not appreciate the cold breakfast and coffee we got, the coffee/tea did not come in a pot but already poured into mugs prior to us getting there. There were dogs around the yard and would disturb during breakfast.... We really did not like this place at all
