I call this trip Heaven on Earth, Lesotho when under snow is a magical place where angels surely live, there is a peaceful tranquility about this place that gives you a spiritual connection and reassurance that there is a higher place, and is undoubtedly one of my favourite experiences.
To get to Lesotho from Kwazulu you need to brave the Sani Pass, 4x4 is the only mode of transport, unless you walk, hike, cycle or motorbike it. We have done two trips up the Sani Pass in the last few years, on the first trip it had been snowing fairly heavily the night before and so we left our cabins at Eagles Rock, Underberg and headed with the 4x4's towards Himeville. Up the pass we went and the higher up we got the more snow we saw on the edge of the road. We stopped for a while and made snow balls and the big kids and small ones had great fun throwing them at each other. Further up the pass we spotted a Sotho walking up the road with his load of firewood.
