Recently traveled through the Drakensberg, from south to north, spending a total of five nights at two different lodges. In every direction you look it's like a picture-perfect postcard. Breathtaking views of rock massifs in 50 shades of green. Plenty of opportunities for hiking or just absorbing the tranquility - if it's not New Year's day, that is. A world heritage site for a reason.

Went on a short day walk in the Bushmans Nek area to Halfway cave.

Moderately easy walk and beautiful views all round.

The Parks Boards Officer at Bushmans Nek was friendly, professional and helpful.

We booked a B&B in Central Drakensberg (see pictures for basic maps). Across the R600 there is plenty of accommodations and places to eat. If you're on a trip through SA it is worthwhile staying a few nights here. Although the area is remote, it is well accessible by car and you will find everything you need. Beautiful hikes. Blindman's corner (return via Keartland pass) is great, but cannot be underestimated. Take your time and enjoy the 5 hour hike. Very experienced hikers can probably race the track in 3 hours.

Spent two nights in the Berg with my biker buddies. Snow on the mountains and views out of the movies. Great setting for any occasion. Hotels are many and well appointed. beautiful walking /hiking trails and something for the serious climbers as well.

Wow I am hiking in the mountains for the last 34 years. The best hiking trails in South Africa. Lots of walking around in nature. Many lodges and Hotels in the area.
Respect the mountains not a place to fill around.
Awesome views pretty stunning pictures
