My wife and I stayed two nights at the Safari Club whilst holidaying in South Africa. It is situated about ten minutes drive from OR Tambo airport and the Club will pick you up and drop you off, so it is very quick and convenient.
In the hustle and bustle of the surrounding area the club presents itself as an amazing little oasis, with beautiful thatched buildings set in a stunning garden. It boasts about ten rooms (I didn't make an exact count), and really qualifies as a Boutique Hotel as it offers all the comforts and facilities a traveller would need.
The Club is owned by Cara Lloyd and her husband, who run a specialist (and very efficient) travel agency based out of Cape Town. I also recommend their company - Ecosouth.
The Safari Club rooms are large, quiet and well equipped and the beds are very comfortable. A short walk though the beautiful landscaped gardens brings you to the bar, dining room and sitting out area. The food is well prepared and plentiful and the staff, under the management of Alistair and his wife (Cara's mum!) are delightful.
Our only minor criticism is that the wi-fi was so slow as to be useless, but I was advised that was outside of the Club's control. Also, the provision of a bar of soap (rather than just body wash), a flannel or two and shampoo etc would be icing on the cake.
But these are minor gripes. All in all the Safari Club really is an oasis where you can rest and recoup in safety and comfort. bask in the attention of excellent service, enjoy home cooked meals, and then get back to your journey with the minimum of hassle and delay. I'd recommend it to anyone, in a heartbeat.

Only a few minutes' drive from OR Tambo International airport, and airport transfers and breakfast included in tariff. Much less expensive than larger hotels nearby. Generally quiet and staff really nice. Occasional noise from aircraft (it is near an airport after all) but that was of little concern.Nice garden, but I did not use the pool: winter in Johannesburg can be described as chilly at best. Have stayed there before and would stay there again in similar circumstances.

We stayed here for 2 nights before and 1 night after our tour and left feeling we had known Alistair & Josie forever. The service was amazing, we were picked up very early am from the airport, checked-in and in our room by 6 am. The room was well appointed with everything we needed and was spotlessly clean. Safari Club is close to the airport-though we found it quiet at night-and will always be the place we stay in Johannesburg.Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
there is also a nice bar which works on the honesty system

Stayed here 2 nights before and after doing a 12 day tour of southern africa. As my experience in all African hotels the staff was very friendly and anxious to assist. The hotel arranged for the transfer and picked us promptly with a well marked sign. The first room was nice, 2 twin beds, tv, ac, good size bathroom, tea & coffee for the AM. The AC didn't work great, but we were Ok. The room had a safe but we couldn't get it closed, so we did not use it. The beds are HARD, 3 of us from the tour stayed there and we all thought the same. They have a small honor bar, indoor/outdoor seating. Good options for beer, wine and spirits. A TV located in the bar. They have Wi-Fi throughout, although definitely a stronger signal in some places. They have a small restaurant with a prefix, preset menu. We ate dinner there the first night and it was good. The morning breakfast buffet with hot eggs to order was perfect to start the day. Our second night there at the end of the trip was even better. This room seemed to be a slight upgrade from the first, bigger room, bigger bathroom. Beds were just HARD. AC worked much better. This time we also had the opportunity to meet the owners, who could not have been nicer. They even suggested somewhere else to eat when the preset menu did not work for us. In addition to suggesting a place they even helped us find a ride both ways. You may think its noisy being by the airport but with the exception of a few hours in the afternoon on our first visit wr barely noticed and plane crossing overhead and certainly none while we were trying to sleep (I paid special attention to those times just for this review). All things considered if you are looking a night or 2 near the airport definitely check out the Safari Club SA.

P.S. after my travels ended a snow storm kept me delayed for 2 days in Jo-burg, the airline put us up 1 night but for the second night I chose to return to the Safari Lodge. At this point, it felt like home. Once again the owners were bery helpful, setting up airport transfers and a personal tour. As you can tell from my review I cannot say enough good things about this hotel!!

We started our round trip from Johannesburg with a stay at the Safari Club. A beautiful place with lodge style rooms and a lovely garden. The owners and staff are very nice, helpful and friendly. Before our return flight we stayed there as well and it felt like home away from home. Again nothing was too much trouble. Thanks for the kind hospitality! We will certainly come back! Highly recommended!
