I wanted to like this hotel, but it didn't meet the expectations.
This hotel is owned by a Chinese family and it shows.
Toiletries are all from China, not just made in China but from China with all Chinese letters on them. You can imagine how cheap it has to be to transport it all the way from overseas. I had to get my own shower gel(and I used my shampoo), because the 2 in one shampoo and shower gel was awful. If you are going to this hotel, I recommend bringing your own toiletries.
The mattress on the bed was extremely uncomfortable. It is some kind of cheap spring mattress. When 2 people sleep on one bed, the mattress just collapses in the middle and you both crash on each other at the center of it. I was waking up making time during the night because I was all the way at the bottom of this mattress and had to climb back up to my side to get more room.
I also wish the outlets were positioned on either side of the bed or at least on one of the sides. The only outlet near the bed was behind the headboard, right in the middle of the bed.
I was very excited to have a hotspring in a hotel. The hotspring pool wasn't cleaned. I don't mean the color of the water, I understand that different elements in the water give it a dark color. I mean the layer of oils that you can see on the surface of the water. We stayed in this hotel for 4 days and never saw it cleaned. I think they just add water to keep it warm, but don't change it completely, at least not often enough. Its not like a regular swimming pool, there are no filters there (as you can clearly see in the hotspring pool that sits empty).
Breakfast was also underwhelming. Arenal volcano area has lots of activities that start early in the morning. Normally, most hotels would start breakfast early in this situation. For example, when we stayed in Manuel Antonio, breakfast was served starting from 6:30 in the morning. In this hotel breakfast time starts at 7:30. We were going on an early hike and needed to have breakfast as early as possible. We came at 7:20, and although some food and drinks were already out, they didnt let us come and we had to wait.
I will note, that it wast only us. There were at least 6 more people waiting with us and everyone looked confused.
They only had fried eggs as a breakfast option. Since I dont like this style, I was left with rice, toasts and plantains. One day I tried to make an oatmeal, but the carafe that said “Hot Milk” only had cold milk inside.
Bottom line: this hotel is overpriced for what it offers. It is not a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. If I go to this area in the future, I would look for a better option.
