Crowded, overpriced, rough waters. Don’t recommend. Seemed like a tourist trap. There are so many authentic activities in La Fortuna and unfortunately this doesn’t feel like one of them with all of the crowds.

This is a very touristy activity in the area and was quite busy. The area is well maintained and nice but the waterfall area itself is crowded at 10am and pretty Rocky to enter the water. However, the trek back up was exhausting! Over 500 steep stairs and it's humid! Just thinking that anyone not up to that should skip the going down to the base.

This is a really organised place with good facilities (bathrooms, changing rooms). You make the walk down the 500 steps and then you can swim at the base of the waterfall (quite rough) or lounge in the nearby quiet pool.

There are a few lockers at the top (you can hire a padlock) and some benches/places to hang towels at the base. We went as part of a tour so our guide watched our belongings. Otherwise I wouldn’t have left anything unattended.

We went first thing in the morning while it was still quiet, which I would highly recommend.

Even though the steps down to the waterfall feel like they’re never going to end, once you get to the base the views are amazing. You have a chance to cool off and take in the sites. No bathroom at the bottom, so do with that what you will. Paid ahead and got the entry that allowed us to skip the line. Restaurant was decent and bathrooms were spotless.

Not exactly inexpensive at $18pp to enter. There are 514 steps to reach the bottom (and most annoyingly, the same number to climb back to the top). In front of the waterfall, a hard-to-navigate rocky landing is a prime selfie spot, but to the side, you will find a more peaceful little beach, easy to wade in for a swim. Very cold water, of course – and utterly brilliant! At the top, you can find a couple of educational trails and a reasonable full-service restaurant.
