As soon as we walked to check-in counter, we were given bottled water and a snack. How nice! We did not have reservation, but rooms were available. To book with Marriott Reward Points or AAA discount, we had to go online, so we stepped aside to couch and used lobby wifi to make reservation. Staff was kind and told us to take our time. Throughout our stay, staff was positively attentive.

Throughout hotel, lovely décor. Room clean and spacious for three. Wifi included. Outlet convertors not needed. Bottles of water provided for washing in bathroom, and water kettle provided for boiling. Noticed that China’s accommodations favor big glass window between main room and bathroom - hmm, maybe a new kind of in-room entertainment!

Gym, pool and locker area big and accommodating. Great to end the day in Jacuzzi after a long day of walking and sight seeing - or to end a day after anything.

Did not dine at the Marriott as there are plenty of restaurants around, ie, five minute walk to Huanghe, a street of local food/cheap eats. As you walk out of Marriott’s main entrance, turn left, walk along the street until T-intersection, Huanghe. Found Yang’s Fried Dumpling and also ate at Yue Lai Restaurant. A lot of local eateries allow smoking – unfortunately.

Pack napkins/tissue as you travel through China. Not readily available at restaurants and public restrooms!! Viatamin C or Echinacea, good idea – people cough and sneeze openly!!

Taxi from Pudong Airport (with evening commute/traffic) was 175 yuan; ride to airport (no traffic) 210 yuan. Do not know why such a difference.

This Marriott is well situated at heart of city center. Plenty of shops and restaurants all around, big and small. People Square and Nanjing Rd, both about one block away. The Bund and Yu Yuan Garden/Bazaar walking distance. I would return to Marriott Shanghai City Center.

My husband and I stayed at the Marriott Shanghai City Centre for 3 days. The room was spacious, clean and very well furnished. Everything worked well and the breakfast was varied and of excellent quality. Typical in China, there was lots of staff and most of them spoke good English and all were courteous. Location of the hotel was also good - very near the main shopping streets with beautiful neon lights and 25 mins walk to the Bund. We are seasoned travellers and have stayed in many Marriotts and similar hotels all over the world. This was one of the best.

The room was a decent size with very good bathroom complete with view of your room through the large window though if you feel modest you can lower a blind. The staff were really helpful and attentive and most spoke a reasonable amount of English As a Marriott rewards member we got a corner room which had a good view of Pudong. We had a burger and some wine in the bar one night which was very decent. Breakfast is really good with choices to die for - I had curry as it was great but there was dim sum, and English style options plus all the fruit & bread / pastries one could ever want & the maître D was offering helpful suggestions. You don't need lunch after a brekkie here! It is a short walk north of the main Peoples Square and near the main shopping street, so well located. The business centre computers were slow but we managed to get our boarding passes done in the end though seat selection was a trial. The WiFi worked well enough in the room but better in the lobby / bar as is common

Room tip: The corner rooms are decent size & have as a result a better view

The Marriott City Centre is a beautiful hotel in the heart of Shanghai with convenient access to all things Shanghai. Trains, Buses and Taxi's are readily available. The rooms are clean and comfortable although if you get a room facing the main road they're noisy due to the construction located across the street. Internet service is reliable and quick albeit censored. It is China after all. The morning buffet located on the 3rd floor features something for everyone. While the wait staff is still excellent and friendly it was even better a few months ago. They've also started to charge an automatic service(gratuity) fee. I wouldn't have a problem with that except as I mentioned the service has gone slightly down hill. For example, if you want a refill on your coffee or tea you must flag a server down, where as they used to come by frequently to refill your cup. The gym is adequate for cardio or light weightlifting. Where the fitness center really shines is the beautiful locker rooms. They feature private showers, a steam room, and dry sauna. Private changing rooms and robes are also available. The indoor pool is kept at a perfect temperature and the hot tub is not too hot. If you're traveling for business or pleasure you can't ask for a nicer hotel in which to stay.

We recently stayed here with our two young boys on two transits from Singapore to the US. I chose it for the location and Marriott brand. It was everything you would expect from an Asian Marriott, comfortable, clean, free wifi, lots of bottled water and the location is great. Like many hotels, it is attached to mall, and has a Starbucks nearby. Gym is open 24 hours, so that helped a lot when fighting jetlag. Price was also reasonable for a hotel in this location of this standard. Minor complaint is the elevators were extremely slow.
