We had a great experience with Destinindia, particularly with our driver and guide Shombu, who took us everywhere from Shimla and Amritsar to Udaipur and Mount Abu. Ranjeet put together a comprehensive two week itinerary that gave us glimpses of Mughal, English, and Rajasthani Hindu culture, architecture, history, and cuisine. Not knowing anything about India before the trip, the three of us let them set the agenda and accommodation. If anything it was too nice for three guys touring India. We enjoyed the Tree of Life b&b as much as some of the 5 star hotels we were booked into. The Samode Palace was a rare experience, however, particularly during low season when the place was mostly our own.
While we enjoyed all of the tours and activities planned for us, Shombu and Ranjeet picked up on the fact that we prefer less structured days that allow us to roam the streets and soak up the less tourist-tailored aspects of the cities and villages. And while they shifted gears to accommodate our preferences, they promised to plan our next trip to take us off the beaten path.
DestinIndia can set up trips of any description for any group, and more importantly they do so happily and helpfully.
Things to note: India still suffers a weak digital banking system. Our initial wire transfer to the State Bank of India took two full weeks and could have taken longer. Moreover, certain ATMs dislike international debit cards, one hotel’s credit card reader failed completely, and the maximum daily ATM withdrawal is 10,000 rupees ($150). As of today DestinIndia cannot accept credit card payments.
