Great hotel and a little basic

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 21 Jun 2024via mobile
We booked 4 nights at this hotel as part of a 3 week birthday tour of Croatia.

We have been to Hvar a few times now but this was the first time in this hotel.

Initially, we were a little concerned about the recent trip advisor reviews highlighting the big groups of lads at the hotel but we thought we’d crack on and see what it was like.

Firstly, the hotel is really clean and the pool area is lovely.

For those with mobility issues, this hotel isn’t the easiest to get to. Lots of hills and stairs, so make more enquiries if needed.

The breakfast was ok, often a little tepid but a reasonable variety of choices.

We went for the lowest grade room, as we were only there for a few days. The room was small, as expected but had everything we needed.

Everything was good but a bit basic.

The groups of lads was apparent. Not that it was an issue for us, except being overwhelmed on one afternoon whilst eating lunch when a group of 30-40 stags turned up! In all fairness they were well behaved but still a little overwhelming.

All in all, a nice stay.

Before looking at all the negative reviews about this hotel remember it is advertised as a three star. That said we found the rooms, the staff, the pool and the breakfast very good. It is a good 15 walk uphill from the main harbour so you may want to get a taxi if you have luggage. I would stay here again

Location of the hotel is excellent; great inviting pool leading to the entrance. Layout of rooms is a maze - highly confusing and annoying. Very old lifts installed in hotel. Rooms are very expensive and too small for the price paid; no arrangement for tea or coffee in rooms; this facility only available on payment!!
Buffet served in the restaurant has negligible and dismal options for vegetarians, unappealing cuisine served , terribly cooked - completely avoid buffet.
Staff at the bar restaurant and at breakfast efficient, in particular a new recruit Iva stood out.

Room tip: Overpriced, fewer facilities given protocol in rooms

Where can I start! What an amazing hotel! But what made this experience even more amazing was the staff and in particular… Marco (he deserves a pay rise)! I wanted to mention more staff but couldn’t remember their names. This is a gem of a hotel at a reasonable price for hvar. The breakfast is very good with a lot of choice.
The only downside was the price of the beers in the mini bar at €13 so I’d stay well clear.

    Hotel manger was very rude
At reception we requested for rooms at same building and recepnist was trying to give but suddenly came and just said that we are fully booked and can't give rooms in same building. After that we saw that hotel was not fully booked about 65-70 only booked.
Also requested them to chk inn early they refused but we saw many groups came late and got early checked in.
Too much walking form Farry terminal

Although other staff was very good and Polite.
I would give them 1 star.
    Thanks

We stayed at the Pharos hotel for 2 nights / 3 days. The room was great with a decent sized balcony and very clean. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the pool and it was great to have the choice between singular sun loungers, larger soft sun beds or tables around the pool.

    Pros:
    - Room size
    - Room cleanliness
    - Pool area great with food brought directly to you. Everything that we had from the lunch menu was fresh / hot.
    - Pool staff great and attentive
    - Location of the hotel really handy for walking into Hvar old town (under 10 minutes). Would note that it is quite steep / uphill from the centre which will be tricky with cases/bags etc if you or any of your party have mobility difficulties.

    Cons:
    - Breakfast options weren't great, lacking flavour and quite lukewarm / did not taste particularly fresh
    - Check in staff not the most helpful / knowledgeable. One of the male staff members was quite rude / aloof during our check in process which didn't set an immediately positive tone. When we asked to confirm that our room was a sea-view, as per our booking, another clerk also replied 'I don't know, probably, but if it isn't then it just means they're all booked so there won't be anything we can do'. We noticed quite a few other groups also spending time querying things which seemed to take a while.
    - The entrance to our 'pavilion' (basically the block that your room is in) was not locked from the outside (it seemed that the key card swipe was broken), meaning essentially anyone could have got in.
    - The music at the pool was extremely repetitive. It seemed to be a constant rotation of the same 10-15 songs all day, every day which got quite monotonous.

    Also to note:
    - There were quite a few stag / hen groups coming and going during our stay. While they were not outrageously loud, it's definitely something to bear in mind if you're looking for a quieter holiday.
