We have always had a great time at Cafe DuPont and that streak continues. The waitstaff were really good in all areas. Our food was great and on time. We are always excited about the appetizers they do stuff really uniquely. We went for my wife’s bday and wasn’t disappointed.

This restaurant is fabulous! Although it doesn't do as much PR as highlands, Bottega, Hot N Hot or Gianmarcos that doesn't mean it is not as good. This restaurant can compete with any of the ones I just mentioned. PROS: The ambiance is quiet and great for a good conversation. The service is great. CONS: It is expensive! Sometimes more than the other restaurants I mentioned and the portions aren't always big or the recipes exotic. For example: The steak is delicious but there is hardly anything else served with it, the fried chicken is very very good but you don't want to go to a fancy and very expensive place to have fried chicken...It makes you feel like you didn't have a "special" evening meal or you somewhat regret spending 35+ for a fried chicken breast. Overall this is one of my favorite places in Birmingham but it needs to make some changes if it wants to compete with the others. If you are a local you have to go here once and rank it with other fine dinning places and make your own assessment. If you are out of town you can skip and try one of the more famous restaurants.

I am an aficionado of foie gras, and have sampled it across the country. Up to now, the best had been in a wonderful hotel restaurant in Kansas City. But tonight I had yet one notch better. The foie gras was served atop a lusciously soft savory cream tart which in no way detracted from the flavor but merely added a gentle creamy comforting foundation. To that was added an amazing assortment of tiny berries, small tomatoes, razor thin slices of radish and citrus, beautifully diced carrots, all swimming in a butter sauce. It is simply impossible to convey how good the overall assembly was.

And that was only the beginning. My rabbit cooked two ways, swimming in the most amazingly densely flavored gravy/broth, accompanied with morsels of yet another savory pudding and sweet potato slice, was the second best rabbit I’ve ever had, period.
My wife’s fried green tomato was extremely good if not the best that she had ever had, and her scallops with a delightful pear-shaped mound of trout flavored potato croquette was outstanding, except for the fact that they really should’ve given her more than just three scallops (which were, however, perfectly cooked).
Service included an immaculate white tablecloth and bus boys who would cover the removed plates with a fresh white linen napkin lest the other patrons be put off at the site of dirty dishes….
Service was extremely attentive without being intrusive, and the ambience of the dining room is extremely pleasant (although I wish folks would start carpeting the floors and toning down the din which is so trendy nowadays). Everything else about the decor and style of this restaurant expected carpeting.
The overall price point is fair for the exceptional quality. The wine and drink list was fine.

This is definitely a place worth making an extra effort to get to. We will definitely return our next trip.

Celebrating my birthday at Cafe Dupont we were greeted with a complimentary glass of excellent champagne. Fine dining service throughout the meal. Loved the herbed butter served with bread. The baked brie appetizer is a nice small size to share without being too filling. Entrees of quail and beef tenderloin were delicious. Dessert selections were all tempting. The house make chocolate brownie ice cream finished our meal perfectly. Great wine, cocktail and single malt selections.
Cafe Dupont delivers fine cuisine and dining experience.

Who knew you could get classic French meal in Birmingham, Alabama? Actually, if you ask any local, they will tell you the town is becoming a foodie hotspot. With Michelin and James Beard taking notice, the word is slowly spreading. Café Dupont is near the top on any list of great Birmingham restaurants. Its focus is on applying classic cooking styles to local ingredients and regional flavors, resulting in dishes that seem simultaneously Southern and Old World.
