We had a lovely day out with Rich. He took us on a full day tour whereby we would see all aspects of the north of Battambang ranging from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Kliing Caves. Rich was extremely knowledgable and gave interesting insights into the backgrounds and histories of the places we visited. This was especially so because most of the places that we visited did not have any information boards in English. So Rich’s knowledge was 100% appreciated. Thank you Rich!!!

The best way to see Battambang in 1 day.

My friend and I travelled to Battambang from Siem Reap for Rich's one day tour around Battambang's country side.

Rich speaks great English and was very hospitable, genuine and knowledgeable of the various locations and sites that we visited.

We first visited a pagoda where the locals were giving offering to the monks for the Khmer New Year. We then visited a tree covered in fruit bats hanging out and fanning themselves in a tree above a small village.

While Rich had lunch, we climbed a few hundred stairs to Phnom Banan and took in the beautiful views of the green countryside. We watched hundreds of locals climb up and pay their respects to the shrines at the top.

Later we rode the new bamboo train which was a fun 45 min return trip around a mountain side past local village life. There was a short stop half way to buy a drink from the locals and I tried some delicious sticky rice ice cream. Being Khmer New Year I had a small battle with some local boys and their water guns.

We ended the day at Phnom Sampeau where Rich explained Cambodias dark past during the Khmer Rouge. We visited the temple which was used as a prison and the 3 killing caves which were used for adults, teenagers and children. The experience was aerie but deeply moving and a brutal reminder of the cruelty humans are capable of.

We ended the day at the base of Phnom Sampeau where millions of bats poured out of a cave for over 90 minutes! There were markets along the road so you could sit and have a drink while watching the sun set behind the silhouetted trees.

Rich then kindly invited us to his home where we met his wife and children which was a special and beautiful end to a wonderful day.

Thank you so much Rich for your warm hospitality and for sharing your wonderful city with us!

Rich was a perfect person to take us around the city and has a very good insight in the history of the area. We were even fortunate enough to get his father one night as our driver who survived the Khmer Rogue Regime. An extremely humbling experience to say the least. Thank you for a wonderful time touring Battambang!

An absolutely wonderful day around and near Battambang with rich! He speaks great English and gives wonderful information concerning each stop off point. At the beginning of the tour Rich suggests a list of activities for the day, and fits the day around the customer. It was a wonderful experience, as well as doing the more touristy bamboo train, he takes you around farm land in the countryside villages and where you can buy delicious street food. A wonderful day with a fantastic tour guide.

Thank you so much Rich!

We really wanted to see as much of Battambang as possible in the short time we had and this wouldn’t of happened without the help of Rich. He was an unbelievable help and extremely well educated, he told us all we needed to know about the places we went to and his English was incredible. If you intend on touring Battambang I highly advise you ask for Rich!!
