Best of Manaus!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Aug 2024
When we arrived at the Juma Opera Hotel today we were extremely surprised at how beautiful this hotel is. The photos on the internet do not reflect this at all. The building (an old villa) is very welcoming; The staff (from the luggage carrier to the reception to the waiters in the restaurant) is very attentive, friendly, professional and helpful. Our room is very large and flooded with light. The food in the restaurant is first class. It promises to be a great stay. The price-performance ratio is great! Absolutely recommended

Booked a suite with terrace overlooking the Opera House.
Arrived at the property and was informed the room was not available as it was sold to another guest.
Now assigned to a small room, with a miniature shower, and minimum space to place my bags.
The electrical outlets did not work.
The in-room phone is on-off.
The air conditioning unit was either freezing the room or just ventilating it. No modulation.
Some of the staff speaks english, but ordering anything is an adventure.
I am cognizant that this is Manaus and not London, however their rates $400+ should guarantee some level of service. They do not!

Dear Onthemach
We thank you for your recent stay at Juma Opera, and for sharing your comments as it helps us improve our services and quality and clarify any doubts about the services provided.
We regret that you could not stay in the desired/reserved room during your stay with us on the first nights but for some technical application error in the reservation system, your room category booked was sold out, fortunately, the bug was detected, and resolved with our reservation main engine service. We were able to accommodate you in our Premium Category which has 28m² fully equipped and overlooking the Teatro Amazonas and then move to your original booked category.
The air conditioning system installed in all rooms provides digital temperature regulation as well as possible 3-level ventilation/inflation control, however, any desired change normally requires a certain amount of time for the entire apartment environment to be at the desired temperature and, given the current period of high summer temperatures, sunshine in the region, especially in the Amazon capital, we recommend keeping the temperature to a minimum for greater comfort and pleasant surroundings.
We always strive for excellence in our service, with constant training for the entire hotel team. Our premise is to provide our guests with all politeness, promptness, and speed for any need during their stay and, to this end, we recruit professionals with advanced knowledge of English or even other languages to facilitate communication between our foreign guests who are visiting or for work in Manaus.
Looking forward to welcoming you back once again,
Best Regards,
Rodrigo D. Cunha
General Manager

Fantastic place to hang around just sitting in the garden with a nice drink and a perfect view to the safest zone of the city.

Even in the night, you can walk around as a green without any doubt.

Also, I can recommend the restaurant the good vine.

The Juma Opera is in the perfect position, right across from the fabled opera house and within easy walking distance of Manaus’s main attractions, such as the port, the market and the cathedral.

The hotel exudes all the essentials of the ‘boutique’ experience and it is indeed a pleasant place to stay. We had a premium opera house view room which was small, well furnished with a Juliet balcony, and a nice bathroom. The bed was comfy, maybe a bit too large for the room. My only complaint about the room was the lack of tissues, bathrobes and conveniently placed electric sockets.

The main restaurant and terrace were both inviting but we thought the food at all three meals could be improved. A prawn risotto was more like a creamy rice pudding; breakfast bread was incredibly stale and there were tiny insects crawling over everything. Prices, though, were reasonable, even for drinks and wines.

Two other things disappointed us - very few members of the young staff had any proper grasp of English so there was a lot of confusion. And when we asked if they could break down a 50 Rial note to pay for a taxi no one had any change. These were basic failings for any sort of upmarket tourist hotel.

The pictures don’t do it justice. The aesthetics of this hotel are on point the staff friendly knowledgeable and eager to help we spend three nights on this property. It’s across the street from the famous opera house and the city Square with restaurants and live music just across the street.

Very nice hotel conveniently located right across from famous Amazon theatre in Manaus. Breakfast was included in our reservation which was a plus, nice service, helpful staff. They hold your luggage if you stay at their lodge in Amazon which is also helpful. Not too far from airport either so Uber does not cost you much and they organized “ Pink Dolphin interaction your” for us on a very short notice which we appreciated.

Room tip: They have a pool on the rooftop and you get a nice view of opera house dome.
