A beautiful spot of peace and quiet right on the water in Old Town Alexandria. We walked here and... read more
Large park...kids playing, dog walkers. A few benches... best to bring your own chair or blanket. Right on the waterfront. Picnic lunch and enjoy. The parking garage is right across the street. We had to come to the park on our back to back weekend at Old Town and it was worth the extra ride. Easy access to any of the restaurants and King Street.
We spent some time in this park walking and then sitting in the shade on a bench just looking at the water. I enjoyed watching people and their dogs and kids. There are plenty of benches and most give a good view of the water. I was able to take pictures of the ducks swimming by, as well as watch the airplanes come in low over the river. Good place to just relax.
This entire area is full of bike and walking trails with beautiful views and lots of green space to enjoy.
Evidently the river overflows a lot, but the water disappeared after a while, leaving debris behind. Nice place to enjoy, sit on the bench or watch the kids play with the canons.
Founders Park is only a few blocks from Old Town and offers a beautiful view of the Potomac. The US Capitol is visible is you know where to look and so is the Wilson Bridge. There is lots of green space and seating...but often it is crowded and not all that clean. The trash needs to be picked up, the flower beds could use a helping hand and the lawn is often worn thin.
Nice for walking around and not crowded. It was a rainy day punctuated by sunshine but the ground wasn't too muddy. Nice beginning to the waterfront walk and pretty views across the river.
