We got a ride from the waterfront to near our hotel. It was rush hour and very crowded. At least it was free.
Would be tough to say anything bad. The route only runs about 2 miles up and down King Street, stopping every few blocks. It's free, and there multiple trolleys to keep the wait at any stop short.
King Street can be a long walk from the Metro station on the top end of the ride to the Potomac River on the bottom. There are many historical sites as well as interesting shops and eateries on King Street. The Free trolley has designated stops for boarding and exiting along the way. Look for the signs with the trolley symbol. The narrative at each stop tells you what historical site is near by. Worth a ride!
Although walking along King Street is fun, it can get a bit tiring especially when it's hot. We used the trolley several times. It runs every 15 min and stops every couple of blocks. The drivers were always polite, if they saw you come running they's stay put until you could get on. Just pull the cord to give them a signal when you wanted to get off. The fact that it is air-conditioned is a big plus.
The trolley runs the length of king street starting from across the street from the Hilton down to the waterfront. About a 30 - 40 minute leisurely walk. It does get busy especially if you get on in the middle of the route. Fun vintage free trolley. Lots of great shops along king street and waterfront
Well the Tram is just as you would expect: a hop on, hop off roll down (and up!) King Street connecting the subway station to the waterfront. Super handy! The seats are comfy and it has a decent capacity for a run every 20 mins. If you miss it it's no big deal - the length of Main Street from station to waterfront is only a little over 1 mile...but on a hot day or in a thundershower the trolley is a nice Old Town perk :)
