Paula was our fabulous tour guide! Her knowledge was extensive of the Carlyle home. We'd been so taken with the tour we forgot to check out the gardens!

I am so pleased that you enjoyed Ms. Paula's company. I find her to be of the highest character of those in my employ. Do not fret about not viewing the grounds as the season is at its end. I invite you to return to my home, especially during the spring equinox, to make sure that our next recounter includes a stroll through the blooming foliage.

Your humble servant,

John Carlyle

For only $5 we could tour John Carlyle's home modeled after Scottish castles. Lots of authentic details from wall paint to home medical equipment are preserved here for viewing. The tour guide was passionate and knowledgeable as well. This is a primary site which inspired the PBS series "Mercy Street".

I am pleased that my home met with your approbations. I endeavored to build a home much like those in my homeland using the finest Aquia sandstone. When you are in our fair city again, please stop by.

Carlyle house is the scene of early Colonial America. It's a great beginning to start your historical tour.

Indeed, I agree. I can think of no better site to begin your journey than my humble abode. Afterward, you must see our city and all of its wonders. I own myself I am too fond of many of the taverns and shops within walking distance of my home on Fairfax Street.

Thank you for your kind words.

Tour was a quick walk through on the same day of the St. Patricks Day Parade. Lovely home, but not as engaging as I would have liked. The Mercy Street exhibit was interesting.

My apologies for the quickness of your visit. Holidays such as St. Patrick's tend to invite the masses. I invite you to return to my home when next you are in Alexandria. I believe that you will be vastly pleased with your visit as my staff is comprised of quite the amiable ladies and gentlemen.

Thank you for your visit.

A house built by one of the founders of Alexandria back in the 18th century! The docent was excellent and knew her stuff. An excellent view into the beginnings of America almost like we were there.
