Dosents were very knowledgeable. As an Energy Engineer I am always interested in the infrastructure upgrades to historic old buildings. They let me see the boiler! Very cool, Thank You!

We went to the house while we were waiting for our hotel room to get ready. We lucked out that they had tours that day. From the info I found, tours are only offered Saturdays and Sundays and if there aren't any special events going on. Amanda greeted us (we were 20 minutes before the posted tour was to begin) and offered for us to wait on the back porch which was air conditioned. Even though we didn't have tickets we were able to pay for our admission. Amanda was able to give us a lot of information not only about the house itself but also the history of the Lee family and their history with Alexandria. Definitely would recommend this tour.
We're glad that you enjoyed your visit of the Lee-Fendall House and recommend it to others!
Our hours of operation are Wednesday-Saturday 10 am to 4 pm, and Sunday 1 pm to 4 pm. Guided tours are offered on the hour. Advance tickets are only recommended for large groups of 10 or more, or for groups who wish to reserve a specific date and time.
This information, and other visitor information, is located on our website at http://www.leefendallhouse.org.
I was quite amazed at the preservation of a house that is as old as our Constitution. For $5 you get a 30-35 minute tour and history of the home and the Lee family. It is a short walk from the metro and downtown. The docent was excellent!
I wanted to tour this place. After visiting Christ Church, I walked to the home only to find a sign saying " Closed for Easter Egg Hunt" . I then walked for about 10-15 minutes to Old Town.
We are sorry you were not able to tour the house during your visit. Our annual Easter Egg Hunt requires the help of all our staff and volunteers which means we are not able to give regular tours during that event. We encourage visitors to check our online calendar to see if there are any events or closings which might conflict with their intended visit. We hope you will be able to return and tour our property in the future!
The Lee-Fendall House is located several blocks north of downtown Alexandria, and is a worthy and well-kept secret destination for Civil War fans. General Lee grew up here in grand style. The house and grounds are large, nicely maintained and give a glimpse of what life was like before the war.
This house is nice and pretty big. It gives you a look into the architecture and the way people of that time decorated. And the history is nice.
