This hotel has without doubt seen better days. The decor is very dated and almost every area of the hotel, including the rooms, are dark and dingy. Why have so many shiny surfaces if you can’t maintain them?
The greeting at reception was robotic and unfriendly. They hadn’t received our booking ( which was done through Booking.com) and didn’t seem to be that interested in accommodating us until I showed them the booking confirmation. Whilst this was going on they constantly chatted and giggled amongst themselves and their friends on social media, their mobiles being constantly in their hands open at wechat.
The rooms smell strongly of stale smoke and felt dirty and poorly maintained. Tarnished lamps, chipped fittings and mouldy bathrooms and the ubiquitous filthy stained carpets that seem so common in Chinese hotels.
A major refurbishment and serious staff training in how to deal with international guests is desperately needed.
Although not connected to the hotel, the front desk staff recommended that we use the travel agency in the downstairs lobby. Do not bother. The two staff I spoke to couldn’t even be bothered to put down their mobile phones and take their feet of the desk in order to serve and help us book onward travel.
Cannot recommend this hotel if your in Kunming. Stay somewhere else.More
