Bang Saen is a long stretch of beach that is patronised by Thai people. It's about 80 kilometres from Bangkok and is reached before the popular tourist haven of Pattaya. Not many foreigners visit Bang Saen and the experience is definitely Thai. The beach could be kept more clean but part of the problem is flotsam from the sea. The annual Bang Saen Bike Week is very popular with motorcyclists and attracts a wide range of two-wheelers.

This beach is for Thai people. Most people swimming were wearing t-shirts and shorts and there was no excess skin being shown on the beach. If you want to visit this beach you must bear in mind that it is not a tourist destination.

Be careful of the beach, though over the past few years the beach has been drastically cleaned up, there is still glass and other debris that could cause injury if you aren't careful.

Still a beautiful place to spend a few hours relaxing and having some local food and drink.

Bangsaen is certainly very popular at weekends with many youngsters cruising on mopeds. Plenty of restaurants of average quality, but as one enters Bangsaen from Ang Sila turn right and see some fine restaurants as well as monkeys that roam freely and are fed by tourists buying bananas from elderly Thais at the roadside. This part of Bangsaen is not so frenetic as the main area. Overall BangSaen is fine if not fantastic.

Stayed at Bangsean Heritage for six nights. If you want a Thai experience this is good. Very few Europeans but the language barrier is a problem. Quite a way from the town centre which is a problem as transport not readily available. One can never be sure what may arrive when ordering. All in all relaxing but only a kettle provided so remember to bring tea bags, coffee etc. A roll of toilet paper also good idea as very few extras in room. There is a 7 eleven next door for milk, alcohol and basic needs. Cafe Coco also for coffee and snacks. Beach area very interesting but I did not feel like swimming there. I would recommend you book a superior room as villas long way from hotel facilities and standards were not great according to our friends. Order drinks early as they take an age to arrive

Bangsaen Beach is a great place if you are Thai or can speak Thai, otherwise bring a translator. I have been coming here for years. Easy 1 hour drive from Bangkok. But remember, this is local style, not tourist style. Beach is not really for swimming - like I said, Thai style. So don't expect hamburgers and pizza, nightclubs or backpacker hostels, taxis or tourist police. This is an escape for Bangkokians mostly. If you do come, you must try the grilled yellow chicken which is famous in this area, sold up and down the beach.
