A friendly welcoming place to stay, with all staff extremely polite and helpful. The hotel did not feel over large and impersonal, nor crowded with package tourists at the time we stayed. Set in well maintained gardens with a short walk to its own private beach. The suites we had (216 and 228) are large, affording plenty of sleeping and living space. All amenities are thoughtfully provided, including plenty of bottled water, lots of towels and swimming towels and daily fresh fruit platters. Showers and A/C are very powerful. We also received vouchers for complimentary drinks and a massage as part of our deal. There is a good clean big swimming pool with a smaller pool for little ones. A beachside bistro and bar overlooks the sandy beach, as well as a more formal restaurant with A/C which runs special themed nights, such as Italian buffet and Bar b que. Breakfast choices were plentiful and all food was well-presented, fresh and tasty. The beach is clean and close, but be aware that there are rip currents when the tide is in, so care is required when looking to swim. A new facility is currently being built next door, but work on site did not start/go on early or late to cause us any disturbance.Would thoroughly recommend as a relaxing beach resort and Manathai as a lovely place to stay as it exceeded our expectations for quality, service and price.

Room Tip: Corner suites are spacious.

First off, this hotel and resort is luxury and that is evident as soon as you turn off the main road and head up the ramp to the enterance. We booked this hotel for some relaxation time after travelling through Vietnam and Cambodia and it did not disappoint. The resort is huge, with 2 restaurants which offer excellent food! We also went to the spa for a thai massage, it was exaclty what you're after if it's relaxation you need. It's slightly out of the way in terms of getting to the main strip in Khao Lak, however the hotel offers a shuttle bus every hour which is very helpful! My only negative point is that the wi-fi isn't great. But that's probably because the resort is so large!

As all of the excellent basic necessities were fully met and are covered by many of the comprehensive reviews already given,I would just like to cover some of the other things that we thought helped us the have an enjoyable 10 day stay there.
Firstly we were pleasantly surprised to receive some 'Early Booking' meal and massage vouchers when we checked in. We don't normally eat evening meals in but because of these got to know the delightful Patty and Pooh who served in the beach bar, and O behind the bar. We also spent a significant amount on wine etc, so good business sense by the hotel and two happy customers.
Also when we needed support to solve a few small issues the Deputy Manager Tum did as much as she could to help us, again two happy customer".
The building noise is not a big issue at the moment as it is often drowned out by the crashing surf.
Just to finish we would like to mention one of the beach bars to the left as you go onto the sand. We went to Coco Beach most days for a few Changs and a small snack as the sun went down. The owner Dam and his delightful team welcoming and helpful, Dam also runs an air conditioned taxi service that caters for local and airport transfers.
Well done Manathai,
Phil

My wife, my two sons (8 and 4) and I stayed here a couple of weeks ago for five nights.

Positives:

clean pool and great if you want a relaxing holiday. Clean towels and lovely beach.

Staff are, on the whole, very friendly. The guys who work at the front are great. One guy especially (can’t remember his name) was really kind and friendly with my boys. He was watching my little boy do some kickboxing on the bag and joined in with him. Top guy!!

Room was clean (did once have to call for it to be cleaned as nobody came) and did the job. Huge and comfortable bed!

Breakfast was varied and enjoyable each day. Great choice. English breakfast tea!

Massages are good and reasonably priced. Both my wife and I had a couple of them. We didn’t sample the cheaper places on the beach but there are some if you want to save a few quid.

Negatives

the room had no iron. We called and asked for one in the evening and they said that’s send one “if” they had one. Well they sent one and then came at 9am the following day to take it away. Each room should have an iron and ironing board as standard. Seems silly.

The hotel is just too quiet. We got bored after the first day. We appreciate Khao Lak is a quiet area but the hotel needs to do something to inject some life into the hotel like an animation team to do a bit of water polo at midday and some evening entertainment. It’s almost too relaxing and a bit boring. Our preference of course, but there isn’t much on and nothing nearby. On the first two days we ended up just eating and going back to our room. Thereafter we ended up paying to get a taxi each day into the Centre (350-400 THB each way) but that of course adds up in terms of cost.

The hotel is far away from other amenities (we did go to the nearby mart and walk to the places on the beach but these are not ideal after dark with all the crabs and a dark beach with the tide coming in!) and the prices in the hotel are quite expensive. It would be better asking customers to pay for all inclusive when there’s little in the vicinity. We wouldn’t have minded paying for that but it seems prices are inflated because there are few options out of the hotel. For what it’s worth the places on the beach aren’t bad.

The kids club is very poor. We took the boys on one day and the lady was just very cold and rude. Very stand-offish. She told me the kids were doing face painting by the pool but the boys could stay with her if they wanted. I asked could they go on the PlayStation to which she said they don’t play on it until 3pm. Just seemed a bit silly to have a designated time for that and having it switched off when hardly anyone was there. It would have been no bother just to let them play on it. I asked my boys did they want to stay and they said no. I think her attitude put them off. We did go back another day as it was a movie but watching Cartoon Network isn’t a movie. The kids club is poor but to be honest it didn’t worry us - we go on holiday as a family and don’t dump the kids but they said they wanted to go and I think it was disappointing more for them.

Construction next door didn’t affect us but maybe this might add a bit more to the area and inject a bit more life. It’s just out in the sticks. If this is for you then you’ll like it.

Dear David M,
Thanks for your comprehensive review.
Your comments are all well taken, and you'll be pleased to know that as a result of feedback similar to yours we have addressed concerns at the kid's club, and it is now less structured and hopefully more welcoming. Thanks for this and your other valuable feedback, and I hope we may see you and your family back here some day.
Best regards/John G.
