My husband and I visited Kibo palace for the second time in 4 years and it did not disappoint. All the staff went above and beyond to make our trip memorable. A couple of shout outs go to Jerome the restaurant manager, who always went out of his way to make sure every dining experience was amazing. Sunday was an INCREDIBLE bar tender, making the best mojito I have ever had, and always with a smile. The bell men were always so helpful and wouldn’t allow me to carry a thing. Our room was always cleaned to a fantastic level. Reception would always assist with any enquiry. I am sorry I do not know more names, but thank you so much for making our visit incredible. We will be retuning within the year.

The Kibo Palace was one of the most americanized stats I had while in Tanzania. The room was elegant and classy, but not modern. The room came with everything one would need. My only complaint is that the shower was very small and I’m 4”11, so for an average sized person I can’t imagine. The restaurant buffet had an overwhelming amount of options to pick from and the dinner and breakfasts I had were very good. The staff was very friendly and the security around the building made me feel very safe.

Kibo Palace was the first stop of a Tanzanian safari we booked with Kuoni and it was a great little refuge after 12 hours of travelling.

The hotel itself is clean and tidy and the staff are all very polite and speak good English. More of a business hotel than a tourist one, there was a lot of business suits and military uniforms around having various meetings, it was quite interesting to be honest.

The hotel is a little tired but the rooms were clean and absolutely massive! (Actually too big a cheaper room would have been fine, ask for a downgrade if you book a package tour like we did)

Sadly, Arusha itself is not exactly a casual place to stroll around and not a tourist location. Our tour guide advised against going out unaccompanied, though I wish there was some good local guides so you could have met some real Tanzanian locals in this mini city.

The buffet was very nice with a huge selection of food, plenty of westernised food for the less adventurous though we liked trying the arrow root which we were told was local. We did not try the pool but it looked nice and we enjoyed our first evening sitting out and reading books while enjoying the charming little garden and local beers and wines (yup Tanzanian wine is genuinely good!)

I would not book a long stay, but a day or two at the end or start of your holiday as a buffer would be perfect for a rock solid finish or start. Would happily book again before jumping into a safari!

Room tip: No need to book a suite, the rooms are huge.

Dear Charles,

Thank you for staying at Kibo Palace Hotel and sharing your positive rating. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our food and were happy with our garden and that you enjoyed your room. I would recommend that if you do get a chance to visit us again, please speak to the receptionist about a local guide as we normally have one available upon request.

We also do have an African Buffet famously known as African Night at the hotel on Fridays. We hope that if you are ever around on a Friday even if not necessarily at the hotel to try our African buffet, I can assure you that you will not be dissapointed.

Once again, thank you for your excellent review and we look forward to welcoming you again soon at Kibo Palace Hotel.

Best Regards,

We stayed here for the night before our safari having flown in from London, the welcome and the reception experience was great, very smooth.

We enjoyed our buffet meal and thought the food was of a reasonable standard, service was nice. We arrived late so didn't get a chance to use any of the facilities but the pool looked great and very clean, I did eat breakfast next to it before I headed off.

The rooms and bathrooms were very large indeed and the housekeeping was very good. the rooms are getting a little worn now, nothing significant and it certainly wouldn't stop me from staying again but just so people are realistic.

We stayed at the Kibo Palace Hotel for 2 nights before and one night after our 2 week safari. It was excellent both times. The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, and the showers beat anything you will get on safari. I have seen reviews that say the A/C is loud, but it's loud in all hotels. Our room had all the amenities we needed - toiletries, towels, bedding, safe, etc... we asked for an extra roll of toilet paper and it arrived immediately after I hung up the phone.
The restaurant is great, it offers a fixed menu if you are on a safari itinerary, and regular menu for when you're off your itinerary; both were equally delicious and had meat, vegetarian and gluten free options. Breakfast had a lot of choices, hot and cold, including an omelet station. The tables out by the pool are lovely, the back garden and pool area are meticulously maintained. Every staff member we encountered was lovely and helpful. We were always greeted with a smile and a warm greeting.

TIPPING: The staff obviously work very hard, and it seems they work long hours as we always saw the same people no matter what time of day it was. We tipped quite a bit, leaving a few $ with certain staff members (porter, waiter/waitress, bar staff) and a little at the desk for housekeeping and kitchen staff. However..... we regret not being prepared with more single US dollars. It may sound like a lot, but offering $2 to $3 per interaction is not a lot when you've spent so much to get there. Bring more rather than less.

Room tip: Quieter rooms: some reviews say to stay on the south side because of road noise, if you're up early to go on tour, it's no issue.
