All the monasteties at Leh are same except for the size. Some are small and others are big. You see one and that's sufficient. Nothing very special here but if you have the guts of climbing more than 150 stairs in Oxygen deficient climate of Leh than go and climb to rooftop. View from rooftop is fascinating

This is around 20 kms from Leh. The height of the Monastery is the problem for many tourists. They charge entry fee of Rs 30/ person which is not justified. In leh every important monastery charge entry fee which is very annoying . Hardly you pay anything for visiting a religious place in India. This should be abolished immediately and a donation box should be kept.Nearby is Rancho's School.

Sits on a hill at an altitude of 3,600m in Thiksey village on the Leh-Manali highway, 18 km south of Leh. It is accessible by car and bus. It resembles the Potala Palace in Lhasa. Entry fee is INR 20 for adults. Footwear and cameras are allowed. Budget 1 hour to see

The Thiksey Monastery ,the largest in ladakh resembles the Potala Palace in Tibet. It contains the largest Maitreya statue and numerous wall paintings and thankas .One gets a panoramic view of the valley from the monastery.
