Stayed at the sifat hotel for 10 days with a group of family attending a wedding. The hotel is in good location, and rooms are not so bad, but surviving 10 days in Surat is a challenge on its own. The hotel management and owner has put a lot of thought into making the hotel of a good standard. The rooms are well planned but it is the hygiene, noise and ventilation that suffocates and drives you crazy.
Having said that, the management and the owner should now work with the hotel staff to ensure that the everyday running, especially house keeping is to a particular standard. It doesn’t matter if the hotel is a 2 star or 3 star or extremely busy. The rooms have to be cleaned properly.
A huge group of cleaners and supervisors will rush into your room to clean but without any basic training or interest to make sure the the room is cleaned to a particular standard.
It’s just done over the surface to look clean but it is not so. Perhaps the best way to do is to supervise yourself to clean the room with the boys. The supervisors are standing outside and busy on their phones while the young untrained staff rush to do the job. Their appearance is so filthy, you think they have been picked off the road for the day.
The world often looks into India for skilled and specialized staff to recruit but seeing the level of performance in properties such as this, you wonder what is so special, but rather nod in disgust.
The front desk staff is okay. The restaurant service and room service is also okay. Be ready to get a lot of disturbances from the road, reception and restaurant if your Room is towards the front of the hotel on the first floor. The walls are super thin and you would basically hear everything, from your neighbor flushing, showering, dragging of furniture, or horns off the road.
To conclude, the hotel is sufficient for a short stay, perhaps a night or 2.
