The hotel is within walking distance to the gardens and the city centre. The service was great and the room was nice.

I only stayed there for one night and the only downside was that I didn't quite like the bathroom. The plan of the room was not what you'd usually expect. The shower and toilet were placed at different places, which was no big deal to be honest.

The only thing was that the door to the shower was transparent, which made the room look very modern, but... It wasn't really what you'd prefer if you were staying with your brother.

Short stay to visit the magnificent Chinese Scholar gardens. We found that this hotel was a great homebase for exploring historic Suzhou and the gardens. The room was spacious and quiet, bed comfortable, bathroom well appointed and all was very clean. Air conditioner worked well to temper the heat and humidity. We really appreciated that we could walk to the gardens along wonderful Pingjiang Road and only had to drive to Tiger Hill. Breakfast was great - regional dishes plus a few western offerings. Recommended!

I stayed at the Scholar's Hotel for a business conference in August. The rooms were very spacious and well-appointed, and were clearly very new.

The hotel itself is walking distance from some of Suzhou's most famous walking streets and canals, and a short taxi ride from the Humble Administrator's Garden and Suzhou Museum.

The restaurant and bar served a decent buffet breakfast, including both Western and Chinese options, and reasonably priced drinks. The atmosphere in some of the hotels many gardens and ponds was very relaxing, particularly after a full day conference. It made a welcome change from the cookie-cutter chain hotels.

The hotel is located close to the pedestrian Pingjiang street and the Humble Administrators Garden. From the outside it does not look like much but the rooms are excellent in a very nice setting. The interior is classic Chinese and they put a lot of effort in to details. To mention one they had incense in the rooms and fruit. Also they had bicycles to rent, which was an excellent way to discover the city.Beds very comfortable. The only downside, the rooms are little bit dark.

We learned from someone that this is the only state run hotel in Suzhou. For a state-run hotel, it's service is very good. The rooms are very spacious and very tastefully done. It integrates traditional aesthetic with modern convenience. I especially love the wood floors throughout (no tired or dirty carpet). Lovely breakfast buffet with many local Suzhou flavors (the best of the five hotels we've stayed at so far in our China trip). The drainage system of the shower could be a bit tricky but overall it's fine.

The hotel is so conveniently located that I couldn't think of a better location than this. It is on the charming Pingjianglu, a 10-minute walk to the Suzhou Museum and the exceptional Humble Administrator's Garden, and a 5-min cab ride to Guanqianjie and a 10-min ride to Suzhou train station.
