The Angkor temples are truly awesome and one of the wonders of the world. But it was our stay at Residence101 that leaves us with the warmest memories of Siem Reap. The service was excellent, in particular from Ms Leak and Mr Sothea and the restaurant team. They made us so welcome, from the moment we saw our flower strewn bed and basin decorated beautifully for our birthdays. This is a small boutique hotel with a nice swimming pool (not large but lovely), restaurant and perfectly comfortable rooms. The location is great, in a village-like area close to Damnak Wat, 10 mins walk from the night market, and with a good range restaurants and street food nearby. Very thankfully it is further away from the large resorts, hotels and group tours. We enjoyed our breakfasts in the hotel, and evening cocktails by the pool. There were no mosquitoes. The staff were very helpful in organising our temple visits, which we did with the wonderful tuktuk driver attached to the hotel, Mr Chen (spelling?). For me, I can't imagine a better way of visiting the temples and their surrounding rural areas than with Mr Chen. He is not an official guide, but instinctively knew what interested us, patiently helping us to locate the temples off the beaten track and the birds and street scenes I liked to photograph. I have no hesitation in recommending Residence101 to independent travellers and hope to return soon with our family. Thank you so much to all the staff. Wishing you all a Happy Khemer New Year! You do your country very proud.
