As with a lot of places you go to, be it hotels or restaurants or someplace else, the staff that work there can make a big impact on your visit. For us, this was definitely the case with Golden Temple Residence. We only stayed a few nights to check out Angkor Wat and the town, and as we traveled with a 9 month old boy we didn't really plan any our excursions until we got there as you just never know with babies until you wake up in the morning.
Cambodians are not only super friendly and happy people, they also love babies, and my god did they love our little guy. I could go on and on about how nice and friendly (and happy) the staff is, and how much they loved to play with our little guy, but then this review would be a little too parent focused. In any case, any parent will know the effort that goes into keeping a baby entertained, especially when it's 45 degree weather and you're trying to have dinner. Golden Temple went above and beyond in this regard every day, they were just the nicest staff we encountered in our entire trip through Cambodia! Even if you don't have kids, they are the nicest staff you'll meet. One staff member even insisted of coming with us to the airport when we left and you could tell she remembers her guests from the stories she told.
The hotel itself is extremely central (1 block from "Beer Street"), very pretty and green, and the room we had was large and comfortable with A/C working as it should. The pool is refreshing and the hotel prices are very good (compared with "down the street"). Our room was quiet and I believe all rooms face away from the street outside.
We got cold towels whenever we returned from the heat outside. We recieved a free 1h massage that was great, we had a free 3 course Khmer dinner that was really, really tasty, and it came with a show of dancers across the pool area. They really understand how to make you feel at home at this hotel.
The only thing that could improve (for us) would be that it was a little hard to enter/exit the hotel with a stroller, as the small wheels got stuck in the grooves that have rocks in them and the steps can be a little tricky to get up and down alone. Also the elevator can feel a little slow at times, as there's only 1. But these are truly minor things. (In general, a stroller in Cambodia is probably not ideal as sidewalks don't really exist)
If you're heading to Siem Reap, do stay at Golden Temple, it's just great, great, great. I can also recommend having them organise your trip to Angkor Wat. We had a private car with an official guide and it was very reasonably priced and well worth it.
