Can't recommend Sojourn enough. Located a bit outside the city -- I was a little nervous while booking that we may not like the location. Well, my wife and I are just wrapping up a 4 night stay with my parents and we've absolutely loved it. 10-15 minute Tuk Tuk ride to the city (hotel will call for you and they'll be there in 5 min).
There are a lot of reasons if you are coming to Siem Reap you should stay here:
-Mission oriented. As you no doubt know and will experience while you are here, Siem Reap and Cambodia at large continue to struggle with horrific poverty. Sojourn prioritizes supporting the local village. Their NGO, Husk, is doing great work to help get young kids to school and support elderly women within the community. You will see a lot of poverty on your trip. Staying at Sojourn is a good way to spend your $$ towards a good cause.
-It's beautiful and a flat out a great hotel. The pool and swim up bar are wonderful. The plants/wildlife are a joy. The villas (there are only 10 on the complex) are clean, well kept, and exactly what we were looking for. Good wifi for cambodia.
-The restaurant may just be the best in Siem Reap. We generally eat very well and can be somewhat of food snobs. The small restaurant on-site (that will deliver to your room and has an amazing included breakfast) is absolutely outstanding. We've dined here 3 nights throughout our stay. Entrees are $8-$12. Menu has a range of local cambodian, western, and other "indochina" dishes. We've shared plates throughout and had all of their cambodian/thai dishes throughout our stay. All have been absolutely outstanding. Combined with great cocktails and cheap beer, it's a perfect way to unwind after a long day.
-Stuff to do. The hotel offers many programs. All of them that we've done have been outstanding. The Cambodian cooking class was fantastic -- a great way to learn about the local community, local produce/ingredients, and cook an amazing lunch of traditional cambodian three course lunch. The spa is superb with all sorts of traditional options. The walk on talk, which my parents did, was said to be a highlight of their trip.
All of this is combined with the team of staff running the show. I have been extremely impressed by everyone we've encountered. They are friendly and kind, addressing us each by name, and open/willing to help with anything we've thrown at them (tuk tuk rides, recommendations, room service, etc.). They've also been excited to chat with us to practice english and share their culture. Such a great way to learn about the place you are staying.
Please stay here. You won't regret it. Great place to spend your $$ and know it's going to a good cause + an outstanding hotel.
