Owner description: We are a family-run company based in Cusco offering expeditions deep into the Amazon jungle. Our tours bring you close to the heart of the untouched Manu National Park. We offer expeditions to see a diverse range of wildlife including monkeys, giant otters, jaguar, and a wide variety of birds. Our adventures include visits to the Reserve Zone, observation towers high in the canopy, overnight stays at our mammal clay lick where the shy nocturnal tapir visit, fishing, trekking and camping. Our professional guides are born and raised in the jungle and are immensely passionate about plants, animals and local culture. All of our tours visit the Bonanza Lodge on the Madre de Dios River in the heart of the Manu Cultural Zone. This is our family property where our parents, six brothers and one sister grew and developed their love of the jungle. The idea for this family owned and run tour company was concieved as a way to preserve this large area of diverse jungle for future generations.

This trip was fantastic. 5d 4n deep into the reserve zone. Food was plentiful and varied. The chef and boat operator were skilled and very nice guys.

Alex, our guide, was likable, professional, and completely tireless! He was clearly dedicated to our enjoyment and worked hard to share his knowledge of the jungle. Thank you, Alex!

The accommodations were excellent and clean, especially considering their remoteness.

I think the riskiest part of this trip is clearly the drive. At one point I couldn’t be silent any longer as our van driver, late into a ten hour drive, left himself no margin for error where an error would clearly have killed us all in a roll down a cliff.

A few gentle words from a Spanish speaking member of our group to our guide brought back the driver’s speed to a reasonable pace. Really no excuse for such risk, and this should not be tolerated.

Thank pmserp

My boyfriend & I joined Bonanza Tours Peru for a 7 Day/6 Night tour of Manu & have agreed this was the best thing we have ever done in our lives, even after 17 months of our world trip. We were amazed by the professionalism of the team, quality of accommodation, food, and our overall good luck in encountering so many different animals (jaguar, tapir, 7 types of monkey, caiman, 2 types of sloth, giant otters, countless birds, snakes, frogs, insects, spiders, turtles, armadillo, and almost a giant ant eater).

The team:
Our guide, Saulo is super charismatic, knowledgeable & never tires of waking up before dawn. He has wonderful knowledge of the jungle having grown up there, and is very skilled at interacting with the animals through calls. Hopefully we return to Manu some day and have him as our guide again. He's also available as a guide for tours with Peru Birding Tours.
Our chef, Juancito always impressed with his vast array of culinary creations, and his food has been the best we have eaten in Peru so far. His beautiful presentation of dishes were almost too pretty to eat. He catered to my pineapple allergy without fuss. He was also responsible for some of our wildlife sightings including a sloth.
Our driver, another Juan, handled the perilous road between Cusco & Atalaya with ease, even when encountering fallen trees and two small landslides.
The boat team, Rufalio & Jose never left us doubting our safety even when we navigated early morning and evening boat trips in complete darkness.

Before choosing Bonanza, we approached more than 10 other tour agencies & operators based in Cusco, and I honestly have no regrets going with Bonanza. Boriz in the Cusco office provided a perfect balance of professionalism & genuine enthusiasm for the tours. He gave us realistic expectations for the tour and made sure we knew exactly what to bring (Do double check the packing list before you go, everything is there for a reason!). These guys are direct tour operators, so you can trust that they know what they're selling to you. They also have a partner tour agency, Amazon Tours Peru.

We were really lucky and joined an amazing group of 7 other guests from all over the world who made the trip an unforgettable experience for us.

Equipment:
All equipment provided (minivan, boats, lifejackets, rubber boots, rain ponchos) were of a high standard & well maintained. Saulo's skills with his telescope amazed us, especially when paired with any mobile phone camera... Yes, you CAN take amazing photos of wildlife even without a fancy SLR camera!

Accommodation:
Understandably, the level of luxury you find in the lodges (Rainforest Lodge, Bonanza Lodge & Casa Matsiguenka) does vary slightly as you delve deeper into the jungle, but we were really impressed with the standard of all the lodges, and surprised by little things like finding our beds were made fresh each day, all toilets and showers worked well and staff were always friendly and happy to meet you. Also, we were so tired every night that we didn't care if we were sleeping in twin beds or together in a queen bed. The walking trails around the lodges never failed to reveal interesting flora & fauna.

It's important to note that this itinerary may not suit everybody (very long days, early mornings, makeshift bush toilets, sleeping at the Mammal clay lick, wading through tricky mud & creek crossings, creepy crawlies, cold showers, walking through the jungle at night time by torch light, always the potential for downpours or blazing sunshine). We're in our late twenties and were exhausted but would gladly go back for more!

Always know that the itinerary is flexible to adapt to things like poor weather, exhausted guests & particular interests of group members.

If you're still reading this, I really hope you have as wonderful an experience as we did.

I couldn’t have asked for more than what Bonanza Tours Peru provided with this unique and eye-opening experience. First of all I felt very safe from the first moment on with Ryse as a knowledgeable guide who was born and raised in the jungle. He took us on an adventure with walks deep in the jungle, boat trips at sunrise, overnight stays in a Camouflage house where we watched nocturne tapirs as well as the most beautiful hot springs I’ve ever been to. The accommodation was always clean and if I asked for something the professional staff helped me without hesitating. Furthermore the delicious and diverse food prepared from a great cook was better than i could have imagined.
Addiotionally it wasn’t a problem at all that i was on my own and I felt very comfortable. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is willing to explore the jungle from it‘s wild and undiscovered side!

My wife and I spent a brilliant week in the jungle with Ryse from Bonanza tours. He grew up living off jungle foods with his parents, 5 brothers and 1 sister, until he started Bonanza tours with his family upon finishing university. We visited two lodges they own and run, including Bonanza, the family property on the Matra de Dios. We also visited the Reserve Zone where we saw Giant Otters on Cocha Salvador, and plenty of monkeys and birds.
The observation towers at Bonanza, and the mammal clay lick where we slept overnight and saw seven of the incredibly shy Tapir, were a real highlight of the trip.

My husband and I did a 7 day tour to the cultural and reserve zones of Manu guided by Ryse. The accommodation, food, and particularly Ryse’s enthusiasm, knowledge and passion for the jungle and its wildlife was amazing. Highlights included a catamaran trip to see giant otters, observation towers to view toucans and macaws, seeing so many types of monkeys and a sloth in the trees, watching tapirs drink at the clay lick whilst staying overnight at the camouflage house and swimming in natural hot springs. We would recommend Bonanza to anyone wanting an authentic trip to the Amazon. Thanks Ryse & Bonanza!
