Owner description: Lovely little fishing village with many shops and seafood. Take a boat ride for lovely scenery or take a walk up the mountain to see the White Chinese Dolhins swim.

If you have even seen a picture in a magazine and thought... I wonder if they edited this picture... This little fishing village is that picture. walking around watching the villages setting up their markets in the morning awaiting customers is fascinating. They are busting their backs fishing and bringing in there goods to sell. Also please be very careful as most do not like to have their pictures taken so please be respectful and ask before you take the picture. We had a women in our group offend a elderly women who believed her sole was taken when the picture was taken... it was a very big deal and very uncomfortable to be a part of.

I have never been to Tai O before so my relatives took me for a half day trip. Beautiful place but takes a bit of commuting to get to. Have to take the MTR all the way to Tung Chung station and then a bus ride for about 30 minutes. The bus ride goes through very twisty roads so it could cause motion sickness. The town itself is beautiful with all the old houses and views of the mountains. The locals are very friendly; they will just start chatting with you about stuff. We walked through a street which was just all residential and you can tell its a nice quiet place because peoples' doors aren't even closed and you can see inside their houses. The food here is excellent - fresh and dried seafood for a fraction of the price you would have to pay back out on HK island.

Tai O is about 20" by bus from Ngong Ping (area where the Big Buddha is/Lantau Island). Take the bus from the bus terminal (5" from Ngong Ping cable car station). You see houses on silts, fishing stalls. If you buy the Lantau pass, it covers Tai O boat excursion. This boat excursion is actually a 20" speedboat trip along the river and out to the open sea (just a big loop out). The boat will stop a while to watch out for pink dolphins, if you are lucky!

Took a bus from Tung Chung bus terminal.

Great to slow down your pace and stroll around the village. Can find great snacks along the way, including piping hot doughnuts, sesame paste and Beancurd. Sit at the eatery or cafe on the side of the water to relax and chat with friends.

Take a mtr to Tung Chung and take bus 11 to Tai O. It is a fishing village with nice mountainous view. tgeres a small village with shops selling dried food and souvenirs and some eateries. There is a nice trail called tiger hill (Fu Shan). It a short trail with beautiful scenery and you can spot dolphin at the mountain peak. Worth a visit. You can rent bicycles to explore the area.
