Owner description: The Hong Kong Maritime Museum (HKMM), opened at Murray House in Stanley in 2005, is a vibrant, cultural institution dedicated to preserving, collecting and displaying objects that tell the story about trade and maritime in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta. Since 2013, the Museum has been relocated to the picturesque Victoria Harbour at Central Pier No. 8. An independent, non-profit registered charity, HKMM is supported by the shipping industry, the business community, private individuals and the Hong Kong SAR Government. “Interesting Visit ”
Reviewed 9 March 2017 via mobile

Well worth a visit with lots of interesting and educational exhibitions. Try loading containers onto a ship. It is more difficult than it looks. Interesting case study of the Rich Harvest incident off Drake Island.

“Something for everyone”
Reviewed 23 February 2017

This museum is sited in a mock-up of the old Star Ferry piers, very convenient for the ferry across the harbour. I always associate Maritime museums with just rows of models of ships, but this is much more interesting than that. There was an unusual temporary exhibition of photos of Hong Kong taken in the 1940s and '50s by a Chinese ex-sailor who became an ice-cream salesman selling from a bicycle. The permanent displays cover all aspects of the sea and ships, with a good emphasis on the environment. A good way to spend an hour or two, especially if the weather is inclement.

“Very interesting”
Reviewed 22 February 2017

The tickets for this museum was included in our Hop On Hop Off Big Bus tickets and we decided to 'fit this in' between a bus tour and the night tour. We weren,t able to spend too much time here but it was very interesting showing you the different types of boats used in Hong Kong over the centuries and how their uses have changed plus the history of Kong Kong and the harbour. There were some interactive exhibits which is great for kids of all ages! They also have a great roof top cafe which serves good food, wines, beers, coffee, cakes etc. and when we visited there was also a live band playing which were good.

“Really intetesting and informative ”
Reviewed 8 February 2017 via mobile

I wanted to visit the museum to see a model of a ferry my uncle used to Captain. However I was interested to discover so much through the exhibits. Very well presented but we probably needed another couple of hours to take it all in . The film of the container vessel was amazing and so educational. Well done and thank you.
