I wanted to visit the museum to see a model of a ferry my uncle used to Captain. However I was interested to discover so much through the exhibits. Very well presented but we probably needed another couple of hours to take it all in . The film of the container vessel was amazing and so educational. Well done and thank you.

Thank Siwan

We had admission included as part of our Big Red Bus ticket so went in because of that rather than any great desire to see the museum.
We were pleasantly surprised and a compact but well laid out and interesting museum covering shipping and trade from the beginning right up to date.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful and as an added bonus there is a café on the roof with open seating in the sunshine and very cold beer!

The top floor of the museum has a ship simulator. You can try your skill at navigating around Victoria Harbour. Very entertaining for the kids. The entries are timed. Inquire at the front desk.

The display of ancient maps is a highlight of the museum.

The museum looks quite small from the outside -- in fact, it's a converted Star Ferry Pier -- but it's fairly packed with a lot of curated models (of various sea vessels), actual pieces (including the intriguing Gentiloni paintings), and very informative panels from the maritime routes around Asia before the age of exploration, to the Opium wars, to interactive exhibits on radar readings (pick your favorite Star Ferry!) and the morse code. Worth spending an afternoon, especially if you have more than three days in Hong Kong! And at HKD$30 for adults, definitely a steal.

Located centrally on the HK waterfront this extensive museum is interesting and well laid out with a variety of displays which are bilingually explained so that they may be enjoyed by english speakers.
