Owner description: The Hong Kong Maritime Museum (HKMM), opened at Murray House in Stanley in 2005, is a vibrant, cultural institution dedicated to preserving, collecting and displaying objects that tell the story about trade and maritime in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta. Since 2013, the Museum has been relocated to the picturesque Victoria Harbour at Central Pier No. 8. An independent, non-profit registered charity, HKMM is supported by the shipping industry, the business community, private individuals and the Hong Kong SAR Government. HKMM houses 15 galleries including a venue space for special exhibitions and events, a resource centre, a roof-top social enterprise café, and a gift shop. HKMM promotes Hong Kong, China and Asia's maritime history and heritage as well as the vital role that ships and the sea play in our past, present and future. It also offers visitors a variety of public programmes including guided tours, workshops, public talks, and school, community and family activities.

“check out the simulator”
Reviewed 3 February 2017

The top floor of the museum has a ship simulator. You can try your skill at navigating around Victoria Harbour. Very entertaining for the kids. The entries are timed. Inquire at the front desk.

The display of ancient maps is a highlight of the museum.

“An unexpected treasure trove”
Reviewed 3 February 2017

The museum looks quite small from the outside -- in fact, it's a converted Star Ferry Pier -- but it's fairly packed with a lot of curated models (of various sea vessels), actual pieces (including the intriguing Gentiloni paintings), and very informative panels from the maritime routes around Asia before the age of exploration, to the Opium wars, to interactive exhibits on radar readings (pick your favorite Star Ferry!) and the morse code. Worth spending an afternoon, especially if you have more than three days in Hong Kong! And at HKD$30 for adults, definitely a steal.

“A Jewel on the Central Ferry Pier”
Reviewed 29 January 2017

Since free admission was included in our Big Bus ticket, we decided to go to the Maritime Museum and were extremely pleased. The museum traces the maritime history of China from antiquity to the 20th century and is inclusive of maritime law and lore around the world. The museum is divided into 3 "decks" with vivid displays and explanations in polished English and Chinese. One of the most impressive displays is a simulator of the bridge of a modern ocean liner.
