Owner description: Since 1904, trams have been running from East to West of Hong Kong Island. Over the last century, Hong Kong Tramways witnessed the development of Hong Kong, and the tram remains an efficient and the most economical mode of public transport in Hong Kong. Today, Hong Kong Tramways owns and operates a fleet of 163 tramcars, including 2 antique tramcars, carrying a daily average of 230,000 passengers. It is the world's largest fleet of double-deck tramcars still in service.

The Ding Ding is a must, one must try it at least once.
Not in summer (it has no aircon) but a very nice way to travel on surface and to see your surroundings at a slow speed.
The top floor is to be preferred for that purpose, but I am afraid that too many people agree with me and therefore it tends to be packed.

Hop on the top and ride the tram along Hong Kong island. If you see something you like you can hop off and get back on for $2.3HKD

A return visit to Hong Kong after 15 years.
As with other cities around the world we expected, on this visit, to make good use of the metro and had downloaded the MTR app in preparation. Arriving at our hotel late afternoon we immediately went to explore, taking the metro to Central as expected. By the end of the evening we realised that the trams were still the best way to travel. With so many stops, its a hop on - hop off service. Every stop has a clear map of the route and each stop is numbered. Once you've mastered alighting at the back and making you way to the front of the tram ready to pay the fee as you disembark, its easy. OK so its a set fee (no change given) regardless of distance, at 23HKD it's less than 25p.

Don't miss out on a tram ride in HK - sit on the upper deck and rattle along Des Voeux Road enjoying the streetscape for the cost of a normal transit fare - or use your Octopus card. Good way to have a break from the subway, too - but primarily just use it for some cheap sightseeing.

Cheap as chips. Best way to get along to Causeway Bay, from the ferry. Great way to see Central, Hong Kong.
