As many do, I quite wanted to see some live music while I spent time in HK. After reading online I saw that the Wanch was a hotspot for live music.
Upon arrival I quickly realised that the bar is absolutely tiny, perhaps capable of holding maximum 30 people comfortably and that’s at a stretch. The beer was grossly overpriced and the place was just generally uncomfortable.
The saving grace was the music setup. It was professionally done and the band sounded great. It’s clear the owner/manager cares about live music in Hong Kong.
Perhaps the Wanch, despite HK rent hikes, should consider a larger venue for the future?
Tiny bar, expensive prices, very loud music and you have to battle to get to the bar where the staff are disinterested and rude..unless you're a regular it seems. Most people are older, 50+ expats but there are much more spacious venues with better prices, music and friendly staff.
Good pub style music venue. Mixed crowd but mainly ex pats.
Drinks are reasonably priced. Good quality bands. Good friendly atmosphere.
Small hidden Live Music Bar in Wan Chai District absolutely worth a visit (or two). Great fun with a lot of likeminded People. No doubt a must go and much better than most places in this area.
An old fashioned HK bar - its been there years, we believe.
But get there on the night with the right band and the music ids gtre4at, the atmosphere is good, beer is very good and its just a great place for a night out. Good service and good prices as well.
Wish had been in The Wanch all 4 nights stay in HK. It’s such a vibe - the place, the bands/performer & the people around. Everyone connects. On TOP of the great music, of course. I’m Glad that it’s on the quieter end of Wanchai. Next visit will be at The Wanch every night.
