My wife and I arrived at the hotel around 10 PM on March 23 and was surprised that no porter at the entrance to greet and meet. As a result, we received no help in getting our suitcases to pass through the heavy door which was not equipped with an auto door opening button. A male staff showed up after we got to the reception area and pointed us to the direction of the check in counter. He looked like a porter but he didn't offer porter service. Although we saved the tips for the porter, we didn't get the porter service that we were used to get.
After getting into the room, we noticed these anomalies. 1. Only four hangers were available on the hanging rack. 2. Only one chair was at the round table. 3. Only one clothes drawer for a 30 square meter harbour view corner unit. 4. The room safe was out of battery.
I called the front desk and asked for more hangers and one more chair. They were brought to our room right away. Kudos to the East hotel for prompt response to service request.
The hotel manager came to check out the room safe. I took the opportunity to raise the issue of four hangers, one chair and a lack of clothes drawer. The manager's respond was very intriguing. He said that the East hotel guests mainly came to do business at Tai Koo Place and had no needs for more hangers, chair and drawer. His words were to the effect that the East hotel did not cater to leisure travellers. I take a note and will make sure that I will never come back again.
